Illinois 41, Northwestern 3 Postgame

The Galloping Ghost

Washington, DC
An absolute annihilation of Northwestern. A beautiful way to end the season.

8-4, a bowl, and the best season since 2007. I refuse to dwell on what could have been. What actually happened is so much better than I dared to dream at the beginning of the season. This was a complete success. This coaching staff did an incredible job. The future is finally oh so bright.

I don't want it to be lost in curb stomping we delivered on Northwestern and the Hooiser letdown today just how great it is on the last Saturday in November to have a lot more football to talk about still instead of this postgame thread being a postmortem on the past season and debating this program's future. Let's do it this way every year from now on.

For those older than me did we recruit Fitz whe he played for Providence. I remember Providence being a dynasty back in the day

He is a good coach but NW had a awful season

This game was very important in that it seals our regular season with sweetness, making it easier for us to step back and realize gratitude for what we have experienced.

Gratitude in life is often about remembering the past, remembering the heavy feeling of hardship, and relishing what you now hold in your hands. For Illini fans, the hardship has been mad real, and it lasted for a *very* long time.

Give thanks to a historical moment, still green with newness, where Illini football gives us dignity and enthusiasm and joy.

Give thanks to this new epoch of Illini athletics where the word ‘championship’ decorates conversations about both football and basketball.

Give thanks to the reality that, in football and in basketball, it is now our rivals - those other schools of the Big Ten - who swallow the lion’s share of bitterness.

Give thanks, give thanks, give thanks.

It was a season of ups and downs as usual , but the distinctive difference this year is more ups and steady progression from year 1 of BB to a great turn around of year 2........,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,This won't make up for BB & families losses this last week to 10 days but it must feel good to see his program grow so much this year....

Illini with first season of at least 8 wins since the 2007 Rose Bowl team. First time with consecutive wins over Northwestern since 2010-2011. First time with consecutive wins over Northwestern in Champaign and Evanston since 2001-2002. Largest margin of victory for Illini over Northwestern since 1989 when Illini won 63-14, which was also last time they won by at least that many points in Evanston. Largest margin of victory in series since 2000 when Northwestern won 61-23 in Evanston.

Great win after a very frustrating first half! Great way to end the season. Plenty of time to prep, do some more coaching, and get healthy for the bowl game. Would love to get a game in FL but very happy to be going anywhere, and enjoying the upward direction of the program under BB. Eight wins is way above expectations in year two!

Congratulations to the players & coaching staff on a 8-4 regular season finish with a decent bowl game to look forward to. All four losses were one possession games. The future of this program after the last 21 years is looking bright for a consistent good product on the field! Thank you 2022 Fighting Illini football team!!!!
