Speaking of play calling…. I thought the Illini should have passed on 3rd down in their last possession of regulation to get a first down and run the clock out. They were going to leave enough time for Indiana to score a TD whether they ran (and came up short) or threw incomplete.

Any play would have been better than whatever weird outside pitch play they actually ran. Just the way it was lined up gave Love no chance to get any kind of momentum too. Really frustrating after gashing them all game long.

Sometimes our play calling is baffling, but they get paid and we dont

and defensive guys can see they are needed. And badly.
Yeah, I don't buy this at all. Players want to see good coaching (among many other things). I don't think they see that now. Perhaps they've rationalized this like BB has. So not a death knell. But not optimal.

The best teams are not recruiting on "you're needed".

Four teams in the West are 3 - 4 conference and 5 - 5 overall.

My apologies if this was mentioned earlier. I am at page seven of this thread.

At this point we should be questioning what the hell is going on in training camp and the who, what and whys John wasn't the starter.
Here are Paddock's last three games at BSU. Maybe the answer to your question is that in August he looked a lot more like the guy finishing out the season at Ball State and a lot less than the guy we've seen the last couple weeks. Maybe he's actually developed? Maybe something has clicked for him. Who knows.

Lost 21-28 to Toledo
13/35 94 yds,1 Int, 0 TD

Lost 32-18 to Ohio
29/48 273 yds, 1 Int, 2 TD

Lost 18-17 to Miami
19/32 119 Yds, 2 Int, 0 TD

A win is a win. Despite their fallacies, great job to come back after blowing a 4th quarter lead.

One thing that is upsetting…..too many stupid penalties. So frustrating .

What kind of idiot spits on an opposing player? We watched arguing with staff who tried to escort Taz from the sidelines to the locker room. He was very visibly angry, and not at himself. At one point it looked like he was going to turn back south. Good thing there wasn’t an official within spitting range! We don’t need fools like him. He’s a disgrace to the team and University.

That was an undisciplined example at its finest. In my world, that’s like a several game in-program suspension. Uncalled for, and inexcusable.

If it were up to me I would start Paddock next week with the following reasoning. Iowa’s defense is good. Really good. If Altmeyer starts they will shut him down and he’ll probably look not too good. Then everyone will be saying “what a stupid move. paddock was doing great and you bench him.” Then the question becomes, who do you start against NW? Now you’ve really got a qb controversy. What a terrible thing for Luke to go through. He is our guy for the next two years most likely, so we don’t want that bad fan blood hanging over his head.

So, start Paddock. Most likely Iowa shuts him down (hope I’m wrong) and we lose, 14-6, or something like that. Then you can start LA against NW without all the second guessing, what-ifs’ from the fan base. If Paddock really struggles in the first half, you can put Luke in for the 2nd half. If Paddock shines again and we win, it’s a great call by coach B and he tells Luke, we have to stick with the hot hand, and Paddock finishes out the season as starter. The Vikings draft him in the first round and he leads them to the Super Bowl in his rookie year. (Why not?)

Case closed. Explain this logic to Luke, he’ll get it. Everyone is happy.

I couldn't watch, so i'm having a hard time understanding the hating on Lunney and the playcalling when we put up 42, stuffed the stat sheet, first team since 2000 to do the thing, and we won.
I do agree, but there's certainly an aura of "winning in spite of him" instead of "winning because of him". You feel it when watching games, and you definitely feel it when attending games. It's interesting.

Now, that said, I think this game should have been way more out of contention if the defense could stop anything. The offense was fun and exciting today. Yeah, the offense had two TERRIBLE turnovers (I guess one was a punt return fumble), but the offense certainly felt way more in sync today than at any other point in the season. Is playing Indiana part of that? Probably. But who knows.

I imagine Ball State did not have great receivers.

This is how we were watching the boys walk it off in back to back weeks in stands. Unbelievable game and finish. I'm not going to chime in on who should start at qb or not, people are paid more than me to make that call. What a win.

I have some thoughts on the whole atmosphere today that I may bore all of you with later.
