Here’s the thing: he’s so good that he committed six turnovers and shot 1-for-7 and was still the straw that stirred the drink tonight. I can’t explain how difficult that is to pull off.
Here is what I was trying to say. We won despite Belo's poor shooting night because he always facilitates and defenses. Our chances increase exponentially if he scores more.

It's a nitpick, but 🤷🏼‍♀️

I cannot tell you the number of times I find myself going, "Andre, no!" only to sit back and chug half my beer in relief when he pulls off a beautiful play. (I can say the same about Hawkins too.)

Everyone looked off last night, even the Mocs after their initial burst. I don't know if it was the ball or the rims or the pressure of being in the NCAAT, but we weren't loose. Hopefully we figure that part out by Sunday's tipoff.
LOL We're the EXACT same way. NOOOOO... awesome lob to Coleman and a slam. WHAAAT???... pass to nobody out of bounds. NOOOO... drives underneath basket and passes out for a wide open three. *shrug* It takes some getting used to (just listen to the announcers), but in the end he's generally fun to watch.

LPT: we all get together and watch in a large group; Illinois basketball is more fun and easier to take in large groups. I do not recommend trying this alone.

That was a class act by Podz to go shake Chattanooga players hand right after the buzzer.
For sure- I know he hasn't contributed much on the court, but I sure enjoy seeing him be the cheerleader on the sidelines. By all accounts, seems to be a great kid and teammate.

So I guess you never second guess any of the staff's decisions? My point is still the same, why would you come to play at Illinois if you don't even get a chance to see the floor in important games. I suppose you are going to tell me that every player on the opposing team tonight is better prepared than Melendez and Goode? I'm not buying that, and if they are we must be lacking in recruiting if we can't out recruit them. Also, according to half of the people on this board they weren't sure and some of them still aren't sure that we should play Curbelo and Hawkins. Maybe we should just play the seniors (like all the other teams in this tournament do/s) and they will show us the way.
I simply don't assume I have better or more current info than the staff.

Lost in the shuffle but Grandison only played 9 minutes but had 3 boards, 2 assists, and by eye was in great position on D. I think they really miss his contributions all over the court. As much as I love Hawkins having Grandison at the top of the key to feed Kofi or take a 3 changes the offense. Hawkins is not comfortable yet making either play.

Which is why many of us lobbied all offseason and at the start of the season for Hawkins to be in that exact role from day one so that when we get to this point hes comfortable in that role .

This whole season should've been preparation and implementation of counters for how teams would play Kofi in the tournament .

I have the answer! For all of those say we had a bad game. I have the answer. Here it is. Are you ready? Go root for UK. Go support Iowa. Go support Indiana.

I wonder how that works out

Guess what? Every team in the dance is fighting the same dance. They all want to win. There are no bad teams here. Guess what. We won.

Alone? I left the room and my wife had to yell the play by play to me from the living room as I cowered in the den! I had quadruple bypass surgery three years ago and neither my nerves nor my heart could take it.

Four Roses, baby. Married a fine lady from Louisville here and she turned me on. May have enjoyed that UK game yesterday, too…
You had to marry her before she’d turn you on? I’m so sorry

She reminded me that she drove 3 hours in a rainstorm without taking a potty break to secure the win.

Devotion.
Dedication.
Domination.
So where you sending her on Sunday?

Listen to BU's post game presser. He explained it. Defense was his reason. We were playing great defense and didnt want to mess that up.
I love RJ’s potential. His athleticism is impressive. What I have noticed on the defensive end is the athleticism has bailed him out more than his defensive positioning. I can understand the hesitation by Underwood in this game. Does RJ’s offense provide enough of an advantage to offset his defense? Tough call. He is going to be a good, if not great, player down the road.

But isn’t the 5 out look of Trent, Belo, Plummer/DMFW, Grandi, CoHawk that answer?

We have also shown the press with this lineup and it worked well against Rutgers (iirc), and last night we pressed with Kofi on the floor.

I agree with most of the decisions the staff makes. That being said just because they have more info does not mean they always make the correct choices. In the past BU has said himself he wishes he had made different choices and often those are the ones folks comment on that they wish had been done sooner or differently.

Really? I know a lot of fans love Cubelo but when I see 6 turnovers, 4 assists, 1 of 7 shooting. His defense was that good? He is our key guy out there? I need someone to explain it since the stats don't show it to me.
LaTulip's suggestion: just watch Curbelo when on defense. Head on a swivel; keeps track of help-side; rarely loses his man, 6th sense for loose balls, boxes out, goes rebound hunting, if his man puts up a shot it's usually contested or a low % shot, and so on...
Contrast this by watching Plummer (or the guy that Plummer is supposed to be guarding) and you'll see a world of difference. Not casting shade on Plummer.

No its not not with the absolute lack of ball movement we see from the starters .

That balls goes into Kofi and everyone else kind of just stands there .

Throw into Kofi or Chuck a three . You see no player movement whatsoever even when Kofi is triple teamed which is amazing considering the age of the players because by now they should be doing it in their sleep . It has to be something on tape because teams are not worried at all about our players cutting or moving . They will send 2-3 guys at Kofi hard because they know the other are not gonna make those hard cuts and finish at the rim or even to

If I know I can run from the 3pt line and double Kofi and when I turn around after Kofi scores or we foul him and the guy I'm guarding is still standing in the exact same spot I'm gonna double him hard all game . But if I go to double and turn around and my guy cuts to the basket or sneaks and goes and grabs an offensive rebound I'm gonna hesitate to leave and be more conscientious of where he is at which gives Kofi a little more space to make his move
