Illinois 59, Northwestern 56 Postgame

We were awful, Northwestern was even worse, and the refs were even worse.

Big Ten basketball, we love it don't we folks?
While I agree with this it does need to be said that NW is not bad. They are playing everyone tough and win AT MSU.
My big concern is either Curbello needs to get back soon or Podz is going to have to play more. Trent simply can’t continue to play 40 minutes per game. He needs at least 4-5 minutes on the bench.
RJ was really good today also.

IMO you sit grandi since he’s disappeared, is an effective TO machine even if it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet, and is a liability on D. RJ, Goode, and Hawk all make mistakes but contribute to the offense to some extent. When grandi and DMW are on the floor together we’re just playing catch at the top of the key. This is exacerbated when Kofi gets breathers
I do not agree with your opinion.

DMFW is not only glue but is clutch I can’t count how many games he won for us.

DMFW isn't just a "glue" guy....he's that FlexNSeal sh#t you can use to repair submarines, battleships, olympic swimming pools, and the Hoover Dam.

i watch a lot of other conference BB games and I am truly amazed at how completely awful B1G refs are ........I mean it's time for the coaches and media to start asking questions of the league office on why they employ such inept officials..............This has been such a hot topic for me and i know , based on other posters posts thyat you see the same thing i see.......

The foul on Young against Trent was a shooting foul....How anyone could see that different just amazes me...........Does anybody recognize any of the 3 refs today ?......I can't, for the life of me , remember any of our games being reffed by those clowns....................I'm surprised Kofi didn't get a T on that phantom foul called on him against the Buie drive ....he NEVER TOUCHED HIM.....no contact at all...................

time to settle down and watch the rest of the Blues hockey game for me........

1st place in the B1G.............................feels good..............it really really does.......................
I’m not going to argue that the officiating wasn’t bad, but notice all your examples are where the Illini got screwed. On the other side of the aisle these calls weren’t terrible and NW fans have the same kind of list of plays where officiating hurt them. Every fan feels their team got screwed.

This isn’t aimed at you Pruman, but I’m glad I don’t watch games the same way many on here seem to — concentrating mainly on the refs. Always going to be bad calls and fans are always going to believe their team is getting short end of the stick. Were there some bad calls on Illini? Yes. But in the end NW had 5 more fouls called on them and Illini had more FT attempts. I’m sure their fans are saying, “how can that happen, we’re the home team?” You know, the same thing Illini fans say when we’re at home.

You know what play impressed me so damn much and (may have) won us the game?

Game tied at 53, 1:30 to go and NW is on offense. The possession ends with Elijah Mitchell (21.4 3P%)getting the ball at the 3 line, but Buie (35%) is in the corner. Trents the only defender in the area and has to run out to guard one, shooter or buie. He has to choose

He makes the RIGHT play and jab steps Mitchell to make him start his shot, but actually runs and glues on Buie, forcing Mitchell to finish the 3P late in the shot clock which he missed.

Such defensive IQ, this guys KNOWS the scouting report top to bottom. He’s so tremendous. Shove that in your Naismith nomination list.

Had to feel great for Podz and RJ to come up huge in those moments. Absolutely 2 of the best 5 we had play tonight. DMFW was nails down the stretch as always. Good to get Kofi back.. we might lose by 10 without him. Trent had a tough night offensively, but we did enough to pick up the slack. Team fights like hell. Going to be a fun next 2 months.

Yea the infuriating part about the officiating was just how inconsistent it was both ways. There were definitely a number of times where I was surprised they didn't call a foul on the Illini. Some terrible calls all around.
