Yeah I mean, I’m personally worried about JE. Entering year 7 of BU era next fall, there will have been a grand total of ONE guard he’s signed that has made it to year three with the program. All the while, we are getting killed by experienced backcourts.
Jayden ain't transferring barring something extreme happening. Him and Brad are working things out rn, they will be fine

A little of track, but during one segment of BIG10 wrap-up with Katz and Meacham there was a comment to the effect of, "Skyy Clark is not with the team, but still part of the organization". What does that mean?
He's not playing, practicing or sitting on the bench, however he hasn't formally transferred out yet? I'd assume that's his take.

I've mentioned before that I have a student whose family are Illini and he's a big fan...asked him about the game today...the teenager was in bed and didn't watch, but I stayed up for the whole thing...something about that seems off...he did enjoy the highlights though.
Well, he certainly doesn't have the excuse that it was a school night. Didn't stop you! :ROFLMAO: 🏀 :illinois:

disappointed to see empty seats - hoped/figured it was a sell out
There were some folks in the high dollar seats that either didn't show or left at half, but all the poor folks where I sit were there yelling like crazy. Getting too old for that, wore out today.

What about him?

Hes always extremely low key.
freshman. Huge part of any freshman's advancement is maturity and handling adversity. Maybe it was all just for show and fake but RJ remained a cheerleader on the bench and brought defensive intensity to the court while going thru (hopefully no more) struggles that make Jayden's seem petty.

Any idea what’s going on? Is this something stemming from the Indiana game?
from my living room I saw him say he wasn't going back in because the guys on the floor were cookin' (like TSJ said earlier in the season). Maybe I missed it but until I hear BU say he wanted to put Jayden back in (not sure why based upon his play when he was in compared to when Sincere was in) and Jayden refused I don't buy it. I'm going with disappointed he wasn't able to bring his A game and contribute to the comeback.

And the off arm push off from their guards to create space. Give them credit….they keep doing it until it gets called. Same with the butt push hip push screens. It’s taught and executed.
And Audige carries every time.

I guess I need to get used to the refs being clueless about the fundamentals of basketball. It's just hard after you spent hours in practice having good solid stationary screens drilled into you and now all you have to do is follow the defense player around, hold them and stick your hip and knee out. I know I have orange colored glasses, but to me this is the biggest reason we've had these guards have big scoring nights against us. 3/4 of their points seem to be coming off illegal screens. Then it's even more frustrating when they call the foul on the defense. I don't think the rule changed, so do the refs not know them?

Happened all night. If you watched NW off the ball there was so much pushing and shoving by the guards and blatant moving screens and cheap shots by the screen setters all game. I couldn’t believe the refs were allowing that. But don’t say anything about bad refs in the game thread…

There were a ton of other reasons we were losing, but letting a team get away with that sort of behavior really affects the way the game goes over the course of 40 minutes. Glad we could overcome it. And the no-call at the very end where Boo was looking to get to the line somewhat made up for it 😜

Fletch was talking to Epps at the end of the game and giving him a bit of a pep-talk. Guy is way more than a strength and conditioning coach. He's a great player who will bounce back
I noticed that too. He was right with Fletch on the bench the whole rest of the game. Saw Fletch talking to him a good bit. We’re lucky to have a guy like that on staff that the players respect so much. Also saw Brad come over and talk for awhile on his level.

My take was Epps was mad/disappointed at himself but also didn’t love how he was corrected. I’ve seen Brad lay into him before and can tell he doesn’t seem to enjoy that very much. Hopefully they can work it out and improve it going forward like Brad and Matthew seem to have. Epps seems tough and will be a critical piece of our team for years to come.

Well telling your HC you aren’t going back in after he tries to sub you back in….not a good thing. Probably a little more going on there
Well that really stinks. Let's not lose a 3rd guy this year........During the season. Let's hope they patch that up.

Shannon had a +/- of 23 last night. Kind of crazy in a 4 point game.
I thought he did a really nice job on Audige in the second half, and all with three fouls.

I think my favorite play of the game was Harris baiting Buie into a travel right before the under 8 timeout. Almost looked like Buie got his off arm out like he was doing all game and Harris pulled the chair on him, causing Buie to lose his balance. He’s a weirdly smart defender for a freshman.

What's the go to spot for the team? I remember back in my day the players showing up at Red Lion (this was prime stinky John Groce years) and people probably didn't even notice them.
I'd always notice when they came in cause you usually don't see four 6'6 guys in one squad. But they'd always just hang out in a corner of Lion and nobody really came up to them or made a big deal out of it. Wonder what kind of treatment the boys get now that we're relevant

The only call they missed on that last drive was Buie traveling. When he tried to stop he slid falling backwards before throwing up the ball for Hawkins to swat.

That's also not encouraging. Hmm. Epps isn't happy with the coaches/Brad himself? Let's hope it's fixable.
To be fair, he might not be happy, but he without a doubt needs to be better. He had 0 points (0-5 shooting), 1 rebound, 1 assist and he was getting torched on defense. DD was worse, so it wasn't a personal thing. When down 18, BU had to shake things up and SH was one of the two guys who really got our roll started. As a freshman, I can see being irritated with himself for not playing well....not sure why he'd have an issue with BU?
