I had a fairly restful night last night after the days events and the awesome comeback by the beloved.......

TSJ showed no ill effects from the concussion and while it took him the 1st half to get his legs underneath him , Oh what a second half he had ............his offense was spectacular , but his defense was equally great , especially done with 3 fouls on him..

MM was a no show in the first half but came on strong in the second half also........his getting to the FT line on 3-4 3 point attempts was huge......

Sincere was the " Tasmanian Devil " that we have come to expect and enjoy as it lifted up the whole squad.......his layup to tie the game at 59 was equally impressive as he went to his opposite right hand for the bucket.......

cohawk was great on defense and his block of buie on that last shot was impressive as was the pass out by Ty Rodgers downcourt to TSJ and the corresponding FT's to salt away the game............

I wonder what goes through peoples minds when they post such garbage in the game thread.....Is the game thread a license for anything goes as far as ripping the Illini ???????

Seems senseless to me to have a game thread and then view the rash of insults about the Illini.......JMHO
The game thread....

I wish Mayer would show more mid range game. He's either catch and shoot 3, straight line drive, or dribble and fade away 3. If he had more in between game, he would be lethal.

Absolutely incredible for sure. But I doubt it's season changing (though I hope it is).

This is a Season-changing victory for two reasons. First, HOW they did it. And second, THAT they did it.

Many/most teams never get a win like that after such a halftime deficit....(The 'How'). This is a first for the current group of Illini.

And season-changing because now they just proved to themselves that they could actually do such a thing... (The 'That'). They proved TO THEMSELVES what they are capable of. Coach can build them up verbally to work get them motivated... and they can talk about they "believe" in themselves... but all that is hollow until you prove it to the World under bright hot lights of the roundball capital of the College World against a motivated opponent in a critical conference game.

Sure, the Illini are also capable of laying down another stinker one of these days. But even if they do... they have been CHANGED by this victory.

Yeah, if this team is bi-polar, what do we call some of the posters here?

Experiencing the highest of heights when you win? And experiencing the dark depths of doom and gloom when you lose? The best words for that is, yes... BEING A FAN.

We experience games more with our hearts than with our heads. Our head tells us to stay calm and stable and rational. Our heart says.. Forget all that stuff. I want what I want. And I’m only happy when I get it.

The Illini this Season are not just a fun basketball team to watch. They are an emotional roller coaster ride of highs and lows and turning us dizzy.

Let’s hope we all have enough ride tickets to keep the ride going all the way into April.

That was one of the best CBB games i have ever attended. Fortunately for me my tickets were in 216 row 15. The big NW fan section was about 3 rows behind me and boy was the back and forth with them fun.. Luckly there were 2 rows of Krush kids in between.. All good natured fun jabs in both directions.. They suddenly became very quiet hmmm wonder why they were in absolute and udder shock at the end... Have to admit they were alot more calm and cool compared to some of the UofI students around them.. The SFC actually sent security up there at the end to escort them down. Great win.... Hope Epps gets over his tantrum today and learns that if you dont play the way you are instructed then you will be seated.

Am very happy to see Ty and Sencire more aggressive offensively. Both took the ball to the rim several times and look effective when arriving. Ty has some moves and Sencire is an athlete. Need Jayden to teach him his shots off the board.

Sencire, from the time he tied the game at 59, to the next time down the court when they tied Buie up when he took on Sencire, Hawkins AND Meyer (bad idea), he was absolutely lit.

He has such a unique look when he is amped. The best thing I can think to call it is:

Berserker Mode

If you arent familiar with Viking lore and what berserker mode is, you should look it up. It's fascinating. It's thought to have been a bit of a mind/body hack to access the "adrenaline rush" when desired.

It's said that the vikings would take on an animal version of themselves when in this state. I submit that Sencire looks like a King Cobra snake when he goes into this fury state. The way he holds his shoulders, the way he moves so fluidly, and his long arms even remind me of snake like features.

King Sencire, the Snake.

People need to stop blaming the refs so much in games like this. Were they perfect? No, far from it. But they were consistent. Yes NU set illegal screens, the same screens Coleman does almost every possession. Epps clearly grabbed the other players waste before he was tripped. Someone said something about Matt’s charge??? That was a textbook charge, not sure how anyone can say that was a bad call. They made the same calls for us as they did for them. In games where it isn’t called the same both ways I can agree on bashing the refs, but this game, just no.

Wow......been a long day for me as today was my dad's funeral
I was worn out before the game started, and then we fall behind by 18 at the half
Did I think about turning the game off ???

And shame on everyone for dissing the Illini....

I have a theory why we’ve had so many guys have had career nights against us this year.

The past 3 years we’ve been the best team in the big ten, and so there are a lot of upperclassmen who have spent most of their college careers losing to Illinois. Which means we have a disproportionate share of guys who are “up” for us for no other reason than they are sick of losing to us. But almost everyone from those dominant Illinois teams are gone, so our guys aren’t coming into the games with the same edge as guys who have been here 3-4 years. And although we had a more mixed record against Mizzou during that time, think the theory works for Kobe Brown as well.

When we lose: The refs suck. We were playing 8 on 5!

When we win: The officiating was fair and I graciously accept any and all bad calls made against us and recognize that some or all were offset by bad calls that worked in our favor.

When we were losing by 18 in the first half I said in the game thread that the refs were being fair. Nice try.

I disagree - I don't think the refs were very good last night not because I think they were biased. They got the Matt charge call right and the Epps foul and I don't mind the moving screens because to your point they didn't call that either way all night.

What isn't forgivable is the Harris foul late in the game to put Bouie on the line when Harris tripped on the guy setting a moving screen and he lightly grazed Bouie - had zero impact on the play, there was barely any contact and you are giving one team two free throws for no reason - what is the point of that call? Your own ego? It makes zero sense to call that when contact like that happens every possession. Officials have to know the game situation

I don't mind a crew that lets them play and it's a hard game to officiate, but the ticky tack fouls when you are letting so much contact go infuriate me to no end (maybe some PTSD from 2005 when Sean May was throwing guys around inside and Augustine fouled out on 5 ticky tack fouls away from the ball)

Well, I have never seen Coleman stick his leg out three trips in a row to trip the defender. Northwestern has adopted the old Purdue strategy of fouling on almost every play. They push, pull, and even trip. If the refs decide not to call it that gives them a huge advantage unless you are playing the same way. The officials in the BIG aren't very good these days mainly because they call it different from play to play. If they were consistent, it would make it bearable. Two things that drive me crazy are: an official that is out of position and blocked from a good view or the right angle making a call that another ref with a better view let go, and missing a call that is literally right in front of them. I don't think that crew was out to get us, but they are getting paid and shouldn't suck so badly at their job.
