Bill Self used to call the 3's "fool's gold." He is right. You hit a couple here and there - either in a game, or in our case early in the season - and fall in love with it and forget about playing good offense. We are not a good 3 point shooting team, and excel with feeding DD down low and driving to the hoop. But we don't do those things nearly enough. Let the threes come as a result of doing those things and it's fine. Standing around then firing a closely contested one up at the end of the shot clock is not. But solid win hopefully to build momentum back.

Maybe, just maybe, there are a couple of lessons to be learned by all in this game. Play hard on defense, share the ball, make free throws, and be aggressive with scoring in the paint. Threes come when they are offered to good shooters. But get the ball into the paint on every possession and take those shots!!! The FT % was good only because our top 4 FT shooters shot them all. There is no reason for DD, Harris and Rogers to not be on that level relatively quickly if they just conform to the physics and physiology of the skill...and yet?

However, a pat on the back to all for a game played fairly well. We saw tonight what the way Rogers can put a positive impact on a game...and a pretty big one.... without shooting over 8 ft. away. And for the first time we see a team guess right about half the time on which way DD is going to go. Sometimes you get the bear...but he will get you most of the time.

Love the W. Dominant defense and most everything they made was difficult. RJ is playing harder on defense because he has zero confidence shooting the ball. Even when he makes a couple he doesn’t seem to gain confidence. I want to see him get it going.

With the defense we played tonight, should've put 90 on score board. 5 -29 from 3pt. Land. 19 of 27 from 2. Great job Cohawk and huge kudos to Tyrodgers.

It is so entertaining to watch the team when they are in their days, especially at State Farm Center.
I will not be surprised if they continue to lose dumb games and enter the tournament as an 8-11 seed, but I will not be surprised either if we have a UCLA 2021 11th seed run for Final Four, or a UNC 8th seed run for the Final.

Shooting threes is not inherently bad. There are good shots that are threes and bad shots that are twos. What’s bad is not running the offense and taking early bad threes and late bailout threes. This isn’t a bad shooting team, it’s a team that takes bad shots. There’s a difference.

Also, for the free throw-obsessed out there here’s your stat of the night:

FT attempts, Dainja, Rodgers and Harris: zero

Anyway, loved the defensive intensity. Loved the flashes we showed on offense. Hated that we went away from running the offense more than we should’ve. I get mad at this team because they could be great if they bought in 24/7. They can still be good if they lay out a decent effort. But they could be great.

Isn’t that the truth…it’s like I said in the game thread it’s not taking them in the flow of the offense that kills ya. That goes a long way in effecting that percentage.

We may never be a GREAT 3pt shooting team. But we don’t have to be. We just have to be competent so it is a viable threat. Not so many would be nice.

We need to look to attack, more for sure. We need to get to the paint as much as possible without forcing it; and becoming one dimensional and predictable. Gotta be a yin and yang.
