Illinois 70, Indiana 62 Postgame

I’ve been rewatching this one without the emotion of a live game and honestly, Indiana is a bad matchup for us. We’re built to run teams off the three point line and make them take tough twos. Indiana could care less about the three point line. (Which is an interesting strategy in this era of basketball.) They kind of want the shots that we force most teams to take.
you must be drinking some good stuff if you are rewatching this..... kudos to you

Someone criticized the crowd but I disagree. I was there and was impressed with the packed house and I felt the Krush showed up in force. The way the team played had a lot to do with not giving the crowd much to work with. We all got loud in the end and it was really loud when IU missed those 2 free throws and it was Nugget time. I definitely believe the crowd helped today. Would have been nice to have more reasons to get up and scream though!

An ugly win is better than a pretty loss. We need to maintain our perspective here. Yes, we are going through a very rough patch, but it’s much better now than late February. We have time to re-adjust.

The integration of TSJ is proving more difficult than we all expected. I have faith that this will all get worked out and we’ll be hitting on all cylinders soon.

I think there was too much standing around and not enough cutting to the hoop as other posters have mentioned. Need more movement and motion for our offense to be successful. We also need to really work on our interior D as we are giving up too many points in the paint. Missing a boatload of shots at the rim. The law of averages should start working in our favor.

And I live in Scottsdale, AZ. If we get to the Final Four I’ll host a pre-game bash at my house with @pruman91, @illini0440, @Indy Illini Fan and @OrangeNBrood_Redux as the guests of honor before we all head to Glendale for the game. I’ve not run this idea past my wife but I’m sure she’ll be cool with it.

Seems everyone is in agreement.

I’m amazed Harmon was +24. That sure felt like maybe +2 at best thanks to his last shot. Guess that’s why I’m not a coach.
Where did you see this? I'm not sure a +24 is possible with the game flow today.

Dain isn't the answer either.
Today I think he had two of the best looks with little opposition from Indiana. A couple of the best we had all game despite only a few minutes and I dont recall one successful post up vs him. I think its unfair to say he couldn't have helped when he did when he played. Most days I'd agree but today he could've helped. He may as well transfer and as hard as he has worked that sucks that in games were he could likely help, he sat. If he does transfer and plays us he is exactly the type we would struggle to stop. Offensively Dain is fine and vs Indiana on D feel he would help down low.

Was not able to watch this one today (luckily from the sounds of it). I am glad I was not able to watch, because it sure was frustrating listening on the radio, not to mention I would probably be shopping for a new TV if I had watched. Anywho, like many posters have mentioned, our D needs to figure out how to stop average to good bigs; they score at will against us lately. We shouldn't struggle like this against the #115 Adj Off Eff ranked team. Also, sure sounded like Ty was doing a lot of good things out there; to have 16 min to Harmon's 29? Not sure that is the best ratio, although I love Harmon.

It seems like we are not as focused at home vs away games for some reason. Sure hope TSJ gets his confidence back soon; we need him playing at the level he was earlier real bad.

Books out on us right now. We’ll be okay, no point in hitting our peak this early. Never thought I’d see a zone under Brad. Proud of him, one possession could be the difference in an elite 8 game. At least gives coaches something to think about. Let’s get back to the ball movement and Marcus can play booty ball with + matchup

Other teams don’t have to “give the crowd”—specifically the Krush-style sections—anything to work with. Other teams’ Krush equivalents get hype and stay hype. When was the last time you heard/saw Purdue’s audience take plays off just because the game was discouraging or unexciting? Krush is soft on energy sometimes for no reason. I don’t recall the play today, but there was a high effort play from one of our guys ahead of a commercial and the camera cut to Krush and they showed a bunch of sleepy people who didn’t even realize they had a camera on them.

Nice win! I'm grateful for that one, always will be a few of those. The crowd was great today. That should be the baseline for (especially when the students are there) whatever team gets off the buss. This is where we are as a program. We are taking teams best shot, but yet we can still find ways to grind games out. Very happy to see TJ see and feel a few go through, but I don't expect to see the full might of TJ this Tuesday either, the schedule just doesn't allow it. I hope I'm wrong on my previous statement, but February 4th is the night and then look at some breaks in between games. It will be on like Donkey Kong!

Ugly!!! I don't think we could play much worse. Couldn't make a layup. Shannon was bad, but he did come through with free throws. We're obviously struggling to work him back into the fold. It will click at some point. At least we won. That would have been a horrible loss at home. I would like to see more ty in the second half. He played well in the first. Quincy's freethrow shooting hasn't been good. I thought Coleman passed on some threes he should have shot. We also didn't make cuts to the basket when domask was in bootie ball mode. Just really out of sync offensively. Thought we should have doubled more defensively to help coleman. I liked us going zone in the first half for a few possessions. I still love this team, but we are playing our worst ball right now.
Also our spacing has not been good when Domask starts backing down his man. Northwestern does a good job of spacing the floor for Buie. When it's done right it's hard to double team them without leaving someone wide open. We have so many options now we just have to get better at using them.

Better to ask for forgiveness than for permission right?!

I thought it was interesting during a timeout BU talked to a ref. Assistants tried to fill him off but he continued. After BU talked to the ref the ref talked to Woodson

From that point it seems like refs started to call things.

Also there was a possession where we drew three fouls on them. That was huge

That was the most unpleasant two hours I can recall watching Illinois win a basketball game.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa...whoa. I vividly remember punching a hole in a closet door watching the last of Weberball. I don't know if it was this bastard child of a game or not...but omg.
