Illinois 73, Northwestern 66 Postgame

He’s a foul waiting to happen, he should have learned to avoid those by now, but leaning into a jump shooter then throwing you hands up after the ref calls a foul isn’t it

He has the skills to be a player but he’s really struggling to find a groove out there- we need more Payne and RJ right now
I think BBV is way under-rated and does great when he gets in. Not to take anything away from Payne. Need him too.

I think Coach should have put BBV in when Kofi picked up his third in the 2nd half.

Two rebounds in two minutes. He has a nose for the ball.

Could these bad second halves just be fatigue and heavy legs? We are in the dog days of the college basketball season. Three point shooting and defensive agility are the first to go.

Monster minutes for some guys to get through the various injuries - maybe more Melendez, Goode and Podz to keep the legs fresh?

In that regard, other than Busch Stadium and Wrigley Field, how many other MLB stadiums can you name? Yeah, me neither.
Well, those are corporates stadiums serving corporations, many originally family-owned. So, to me a university is different. To you, perhaps there's no distinction. Fair enough.

I agree that cohawk is playing NOT to make a mistake , but that bounce pass to RJ for the fast break layup was SWEET........

Next year usher's in a new regime for the Illini , with TF , AP ,DMW and POSSIBLY Kofi and Jake gone and I'm less concerned today as ever ....

RJ , Podz, Luke , AC and the new frosh shows me we are OK ....add in Omar , Dainja and possible transfer's in and we will be in the thick of another B1G title run...............

Time to put the feet up , enjoy my lady soulmate and relax before the Super Bowl starts.......

It was a struggle today , but struggles make you stronger if you take the right approach to it ....I'm sure BU and staff will go over the mistakes and have us ready for the McPunky's next week..................

That whole sequence from the Payne block to Hawkins leading the break to RJ throwing down a monster 2 hand jam (no dribbles from the 3 point line and still was way above the rim 😳) is everything we've been missing the last couple years. Skill + elite size and athleticism. RJ and Payne plus Rodgers coming in next year are posters waiting to happen.

Northwestern does this to teams. They've only been blown out once all season. To Purdue on the road. Sound familiar? They're good enough to make your life queasy, but not good enough to beat the better teams. We were the better team, despite ALL of our flaws being exposed.

This isn't the best we can play, and we know it. We'll be better.
This was another episode of the Chrissy goes down by single digits soap opera.........Some say he is a good coach .....i give him credit for the mildcats finally getting to the dance , but other than that , is he really that good of a coach ??......seems a good coach would figure out how to win some of the multiple single digit losses.....

Oh well, the Illini are all alone in 1st place in the B1G with 6 games left to be played ............better than the pundits predicted , so color me
extremely O & B happy and smiling at my lady big time in Paducah ............................

Enjoy the Illini everyone ..................I sure am........................I really really am....................

Oh , what a world...........................

Nothing against my insurance company of 40 years, but, God willing, I'm looking forward to the mid-2040s when the naming rights expire. IMO a national architectural landmark shouldn't have corporate sponsorship. I'm a grumpy old man that way. :ah:
Nothing much is as thrilling to me as when I look down from a C7 on a CLT-PIA flight and seeing the Assembly Hall on a bright sunny day. I'm getting chills now typing this.

I want to shout it out: "hey look everybody; the Assembly Hall!!!"

I just hope that it's still standing in its same form. (to clarify, I'm all good with the reno and its current state)

Plus: Goode, Podz, Epps and Harris. And a rejuvenated (hopefully) Andre Curbelo.

Melendez save their butts! Now the Big 10 conference title is totally in the "fumble finger turnover hands" of this this team! Playing 20 minutes a game will not get them there.

Agreed, though it has been far too long since I enjoyed that view. The AH is one among many jewels in the crown that is the University of Illinois, but it has a particularly special place in my heart. There just ain't nothing like it anywhere else.

And hey, at least GEICO didn't purchase the rights. Every time I hear "Value City Arena" I chortle. BTW, did everyone see that the network coverage for our game v. the Rocket Mortgage Spartans changed to ESPN?

Some of his contests on drives lately he's only putting one hand up and the other one on their body. That gives the refs two options to call a foul. He and Grandi both need to start walling up with two hands. When players are jumping mostly straight up in that way they are getting less fouls called.

My prediction for the postgame thread if we win the NC game:
Somebody will say, “Oh, no, we’re in big trouble for next year.”
That, and “I can’t stand how Curbelo plays so recklessly…”
Or: "we're going to lose our whole team in the First Round of the NBA draft."

That would be ok too, no?
