Illinois 73, Ohio State 68 Postgame

Honestly if brad and our players bring this up it could put pressure on the big ten to name us co-champs. ESPECIALLY if Michigan loses tomorrow
If Michigan loses tomorrow I would think illinois needs to issue a complaint. If Michigan wins... we’ll then they’re a 1/2 game ahead with a better winning percentage... they’d need to drop 2 against the 3 easiest opponents so idk

Yes. Kofi is gone. He was 2 feet out the door last year and only came back because Ayo convinced him.
He looks to be one of the top 2 or 3 big men this year. Tonight seemed like an off night for him and he still got 12 points and 6 rebounds in only 25 minutes. Not bad for an off night against a top 10 team.

I looked at the video about 20x. The refs made the right call for the entertainment of the game. But almost 50/50 call. Ayo attempted to avoid contact and caught Sueing on the left shoulder. Right call overall
The refs called a good game today for the most part.

He could be gone, especially with Ayo leaving.

It is a false narrative to say Illinois had him in our backyard and either didn't want him or let him get away. Both Groce and BU wanted him. I don't know what led him not to commit, either he really liked OSU or their was drama from one of our former players.

With Liddel, I believe we are in the same group as Gonzaga and Baylor.
It’s been said many times OSU was his dream school. He even liked them when he was a young kid

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!!!! Great team win.

Boy, that charge/block call on Ayo was huge. Surprised that was a block but Curbelo drew a charge earlier, if I'm being honest.

Damonte... the ultimate glue guy. Loved his defense on Liddell. Might have to see more of that if we meet in the B1G Tournament.

Somewhere, though, Dickie V is still alone in a room, rambling about the Flying Illini to no one in particular....
I have seen all the Illini teams since the mid 50s and, IMHO, Dickie should be allowed to expound on the virtues of the Flyin' Illini as they were simply the most entertaining and skilled team to wear the uniform. The '05 team would be only a half step behind while this team, third on the list, is maybe as likely to win it all as any. The '05 team did not have a chance from the tip due to how the game was called, and the Flyin' Illini had to try to beat a very talented Michigan team for a third time. This team is as good as any and getting better every day. Let's hope they can give Dickie a new favorite Illini team!!

Did you notice Chin took over the huddle? BU let his defensive specialist assistant coach just handle it. That’s a sign of a great head coach knowing he has a great assistant to control the huddle in crunch time.
That’s also a sign of a great assistant coach

For the record, I don't have a problem with Dick Vitale. He has incredible enthusiasm for college basketball and it's great publicity for him to be talking up the team. And his raising money for cancer research is awesome. I just thought it's funny that he brings up the '89 team so much... the broadcast tonight was about to cut out and he was STILL talking about the Flyin' Illini in literally the final seconds, saying they would beat this team without question.

The only announcers who I sometimes actually want to gripe about (but try not to because I know they're trying their best) are the student announcers on BTN+.

And now I will go watch the highlights from tonight again on YouTube... I am a big fan of these 15+ minute game highlight videos on there.

Ayo mentioned in his postgame that there are still four rings up for grabs. Anyone know what all four are?

COLUMBUS, Ohio — After missing three games with a concussion and facial injuries, Illinois star Ayo Dosunmu returned Saturday wearing a protective mask he chose because it makes him look a little like a superhero.
Dosunmu played the part with a 19-point performance, and the No. 4 Illini rallied late to beat reeling No. 7 Ohio State 73-68.
“They gave me different options of masks to wear, and I thought this was the best mask for me,” he said of the protective covering over his broken nose and upper face. “I’m into comic books and stuff. I feel like a superhero with a black mask on.”

“What a week,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. “That’s a tough, tough, tough group of guys in that locker room.”

When it looked like Ohio State might start to pull away late, the Buckeyes’ shooting went cold. Illinois’ Da’Monte Williams hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 68 with 1:31 left.
Dosunmu’s layup and three foul shots in the last 44 seconds provided the margin of victory as Ohio State failed to make another basket in the game. The Buckeyes missed their last 10 shots and didn’t score in the final 3:48

“We’re in a good place,” Underwood said. “You want to go in (the Big Ten tournament) confident. You don’t want to go in doubting yourself.”

This team has something special going on, from coaching staff on down to all players and managers.......It also makes me appreciate the magic I have seen this year and I fully profess to believing we are witnessing greatness before our eyes....I'm not one to wax hyperbole but this team gives me a " feeling " of finally achieving what we all want.......that elusive trophy....

Great game guys...it's truly wonderful to be behind by 4 at the end of a game and expecting a win....numerous past years i would have eased back in my chair waiting for the wheels to come off even if we were leading late....refreshing to share the joy of this Illini team with you all here.....

It's nice to kick that uneasy feeling we've had for the past 15 years and be able to trust the team to pull it out.
This must be what it feels like to be a Cubs fan

I love these locker room celebrations, but I feel sorry for the janitors that have to clean up after we come to town.
Unfortunately, no fans to clean up after. Happy to hear some fans will be in the BTT and NCAAs. Totally psyched up about the ILLINI!

Agree...and I think the argument as co champ becomes even more compelling if we win the tourney.

Only team I worry about in tourney is Iowa
