Great effort Illini.........Great start out to a 14-0 lead.........had a big lead at halftime........Muddied the waters with both teams scoring 30 points for the second half..........

As Doug Altenberger stated we got a little complacent midway in the second half but turned it back on late for a convincing 17 point win........We led wire to wire...........

And what about the beloved's FT shooting of late..........20-22 for this game and almost that good for the past 3-4 games.......

that was a great game pru......................what a start and how about those shot blocks by TSJ ??.....He is the leader for sure......

This was a really good win. Colgate is a solid team that will likely make the tourney for their 5th time in the past 6 years. We jumped them from the get go, had a great first half and slogged it out after taking our foot off the gas. I'm sure there will be hot takes regarding the 2nd half, but that was a solid win. Some quick takeaways.

-1st half TSJ was the equivalent of seeing an NBA player take on high schoolers. He was in god mode.
-When CoHawk actively looks to get his midrange game going he looks like an all B10 player. Good defense as usual as well.
-Nice to see Marcus' endgame after a frustrating day at the office. He told Colgate nighty night.
-Guerrier with another strong game
-Ty was the straw that stirred that 1st half cocktail tonight. He looked really good.
-Luke had a quiet game
-Justin needs to he more consistent on the defensive end. When he's out there, there's a noticeable falloff and he needs to be more aware of his guy offball.
-DGL blew his opportunity today. Hard to gain the coach's confidence when you aren't playing team basketball on the offensive end. He needs to change his mentality
-Surprised Amani didn't get any time today. Would've liked to have seen him get a few minutes in that 2nd half to see how he would play

Overall really good win. Onto Braggin Rights!

I wonder if any team has made it to the final 4 with an assist to turnover ratio as low as ours has been this year? Not sure why most teams don't zone us as we consistently stagnate on offense and settle for 3's. Thankfully, we are just good enough, and streaky enough at 3's, and really good at 2's that when combined with our excellent defense and rebounding- we are a handful for anyone. Shannon is the real deal- not sure he gets enough credit for how great he is on defense.

Three things have become quite evident.
1. TSjr. listened to and understood what the NBA evaluators asked him to do in order to be of value. He is becoming an obvious NBA high draft pick...and hopefully an Illini consensus AA.

2. Someone has been getting these kids to not hurry their routine at the FT line and keep their eyes from moving anywhere but vertically. Great job in the past couple of games....even DD. The final brick is getting their lift and release shorter (for those needed) and dependent on timing, not feel. There has been noticeable, supportable evidence of change in the teams' FT technique in the last couple of weeks. A tip of my cap for hard work that has produced positive results.

3. There may never be a full appreciation or grasp by this team of the value of possession. Dumbass turnovers are killers....and yet they continue. But keep working on good passing and getting it to your teammate. There is enough talent on this team that high risk plays are not needed.

Otherwise, a lot of solid play today against a solid, but physically less talented, Colgate team...a Colgate team I enjoyed watching.

Finally, we have seen all the starters grow and shine to date with Ty aggressively looking to get to the rim today which is a good thing and needed. But there are still two guys with tremendous potential left unused that will be needed. Harmon and Goode need to get a chance to gain the confidence that they can score and defend against any level of talent. Both are tenacious rebounders, but are not getting the chance to develop ways to score. They both may need BU to tell them they need to score 10-14 in one half or else....and then given the opportunity. We need them both to be a threat to score...it will make everyone else a bigger threat.

BU in press conference said that we need to be more than just Terrance, which he has said before and is obvious. Any chance he whispered in TJS's ear and told him to back off on offensive end to see how the other's would react?

Great first half. Finals I think makes the effort a bit unpredictable, but they looked good for most of the game. Never like to see a team put them away then let them back in, but they did enough and finished it.

Underwood looks far more relaxed this season. Shows how much he trusts these guys and the process. Doesn't get as upset with the mistakes --good to see!

Not sure if anyone else caught this but there’s 1 thing I’ll remember from this game.. Brad called over Luke on the sideline and gave him a mean glare, Luke looked a little stressed on what was going to be said and BU said something along the lines of “shoot the 3. If you’re going to play you need to shoot”..Luke chuckled to himself.. it was a few possessions after Luke turned the ball over… immediately after Shannon’s chase down block led to a trailing Luke no hesitation 25 footer…. Put a smile on my face.

Overall solid effort. They packed the paint and mixed in a zone to muck up the game in the second half. We seemed to lose focus and settle a bit on offense but kept up defensive focus for the most part.

Biggest positives for me were Coleman and Quincy offensively. Both look like they are feeling better and of course our offense is much more potent when they are hitting shots. Liked Ty’s aggressiveness too. Tough luck with a few bunnies but those will start to drop if he remains aggressive.

Biggest negative to me was our transition defense was pretty mediocre. We need to clean that up in a hurry or Mizzou will bury us with transition 3’s.

Given the sleepy Sunday morning start right after finals week and a 3 game road trip against a tourney caliber opponent, I will take a mostly comfortable 17 point win.
Didn't it take Cohawk 15 shots for 14 pts.? 2nd game in a row, 2-14 from 3 land. Quit for the love of Mike shooting 3's..

I wasn't able to watch until the last 8 minutes or so in the second and that was with a house full of family. From what I could tell, it looked like they started to get real lazy on the defensive end. I'll watch the pressers in a bit, interested to hear BU's tone.

You can see Ty's progression. It's good to see. The next step for him is to get into the lane and finish. He's way, way too strong and physical to miss some of the stuff he misses. If he can add an offensive element to his game....look out.

I think that the laziness was on the offensive end. The first half was a clinic. The second half was stagnant, the ball stuck and we starting chucking up threes again. That's still in the DNA and it still gets us into trouble.

I agree. It is good to see Ty growing game to game. His defense and rebounding are already really good, just needs to finish on offense in the lane and he will be just fine. Mizzou will provide a test, as I'm sure they will press us. Hopefully he keeps his head up, avoids careless turnovers, and we get some easy buckets.

Don't know if we can put the toothpaste back in the tube after that one.

I'll see myself out.

I’m sure Colgate is just so tired of all the dental puns they get all the time. They must think that puns are just so cheap and annoying!

So instead... let’s take a ‘Close-Up’ view of the game today from the high ‘Crest’ of viewing the game from ‘a good and solid chair’ and with our ‘mouths wide open’ from the seeing an awesome Illini performance (at times). Giving us all 'grins'.

Illini really ‘drilled down’ today. And this greatly ‘impacted’ and ‘bristled ‘their opponents. Leaving them with a ‘bitter taste in their mouths’ and wishing for a ‘good mouthwash’.

At times the Illini appeared ‘bright and brilliantly white’. And other times they began to ‘show stains and started to look dull’. But nothing that a ‘good overall cleaning’ wouldn’t help.

You don’t need an ‘X-Ray machine’ to see the Illini have a really good ball club that puts ‘a smile on your face’. Good and healthy game ‘chops’.

The rest of the Big Ten and others need to ‘chew’ and ‘bite down’ hard on that. Our Beloveds put ‘strong teeth’ into their schedule. Their opposition just has to
‘swallow’ hard.

Still, at times Coach U has to ‘chew’ our guys out and get them to 'open up' and ‘savor’ the moment instead of ‘grinding things’ out too quickly and missing how ‘tasty’ a good game of roundball can be.

Regardless, the Illini are always going to be a ‘Make an Appointment’ to Watch. It’s fun to watch them ‘brush aside’ all those who dare to flare their ‘gums’ at them.

And that’s something all of us can savor. No more ‘bad taste’ to the end of the season where we need to ‘clean our palate’ and look 'Six months ahead'. Let’s hope for an ‘Ultra-Bright’ finish to this Illini Season. And not just another ‘Rinse and Repeat’.

(And yes... I’LL follow you out now!...)
