Ran into this Illinois Legend leaving State Farm Center today.. Stopped and spoke was very friendly and nice. Heard he was secretly here working with the team on free throw shooting. Oh would have been nice if he was acknowledged like others who have returned been introduced and did less.

Ps... I have no clue how to paste links here

Three things have become quite evident.
1. TSjr. listened to and understood what the NBA evaluators asked him to do in order to be of value. He is becoming an obvious NBA high draft pick...and hopefully an Illini consensus AA.

2. Someone has been getting these kids to not hurry their routine at the FT line and keep their eyes from moving anywhere but vertically. Great job in the past couple of games....even DD. The final brick is getting their lift and release shorter (for those needed) and dependent on timing, not feel. There has been noticeable, supportable evidence of change in the teams' FT technique in the last couple of weeks. A tip of my cap for hard work that has produced positive results.

3. There may never be a full appreciation or grasp by this team of the value of possession. Dumbass turnovers are killers....and yet they continue. But keep working on good passing and getting it to your teammate. There is enough talent on this team that high risk plays are not needed.

Otherwise, a lot of solid play today against a solid, but physically less talented, Colgate team...a Colgate team I enjoyed watching.

Finally, we have seen all the starters grow and shine to date with Ty aggressively looking to get to the rim today which is a good thing and needed. But there are still two guys with tremendous potential left unused that will be needed. Harmon and Goode need to get a chance to gain the confidence that they can score and defend against any level of talent. Both are tenacious rebounders, but are not getting the chance to develop ways to score. They both may need BU to tell them they need to score 10-14 in one half or else....and then given the opportunity. We need them both to be a threat to score...it will make everyone else a bigger threat.
Wait, in the offseason tons of people on here said we didn’t practice free throws.

It got dicey for a second there but we got the W. Need to figure out the zone busting sauce because Colgate befuddled us with a zone and I imagine our conference companions won't hesitate to break one out against us.
Watched Mizzo and they played a lot of zone against Seton Hall....I'm sure we'll see several stretches of zone defense in St. Lou

That's a cool encounter, and I love that our former players care enough about the program to come back and help our current players. Obviously something is making a difference at the free throw line lately. One thing I remember about watching Shawn Pruitt play, though, was holding my breath went he went to the line. He must have learned some things later?

Also, I was right behind Kenny Battle going through security into the game today, and thought that was cool. I chickened out on talking to him though. :)

Really solid defensive performance today, better than the previous two games, especially to open and close out the games.

Another A game according to game score, more games like this will lead to a really good year.

Ty has definitely been improving in his PG role. The action where he gets to the paint and a guy cuts under the basket on the double team was great. We are still missing some creativity though.

As a team, we still struggle getting an entry pass. Didn't like the second half where it seemed we got lazy and started taking bad threes when we didn't immediately get in the lane.

That wasn't half as bad as the wait for concessions at halftime. Missed the first 10min of game time in the second half. Fun game, quiet crowd, kids enjoyed the popcorn and nachos.

I’m sure Colgate is just so tired of all the dental puns they get all the time. They must think that puns are just so cheap and annoying!

So instead... let’s take a ‘Close-Up’ view of the game today from the high ‘Crest’ of viewing the game from ‘a good and solid chair’ and with our ‘mouths wide open’ from the seeing an awesome Illini performance (at times). Giving us all 'grins'.

Illini really ‘drilled down’ today. And this greatly ‘impacted’ and ‘bristled ‘their opponents. Leaving them with a ‘bitter taste in their mouths’ and wishing for a ‘good mouthwash’.

At times the Illini appeared ‘bright and brilliantly white’. And other times they began to ‘show stains and started to look dull’. But nothing that a ‘good overall cleaning’ wouldn’t help.

You don’t need an ‘X-Ray machine’ to see the Illini have a really good ball club that puts ‘a smile on your face’. Good and healthy game ‘chops’.

The rest of the Big Ten and others need to ‘chew’ and ‘bite down’ hard on that. Our Beloveds put ‘strong teeth’ into their schedule. Their opposition just has to
‘swallow’ hard.

Still, at times Coach U has to ‘chew’ our guys out and get them to 'open up' and ‘savor’ the moment instead of ‘grinding things’ out too quickly and missing how ‘tasty’ a good game of roundball can be.

Regardless, the Illini are always going to be a ‘Make an Appointment’ to Watch. It’s fun to watch them ‘brush aside’ all those who dare to flare their ‘gums’ at them.

And that’s something all of us can savor. No more ‘bad taste’ to the end of the season where we need to ‘clean our palate’ and look 'Six months ahead'. Let’s hope for an ‘Ultra-Bright’ finish to this Illini Season. And not just another ‘Rinse and Repeat’.

(And yes... I’LL follow you out now!...)

Ty is not yet where he needs to be as far as point gaurd goes. When we were playing weaker competition he was able to drive into the paint frequently and get some easy baskets, not so much against the better teams. I think because he is no threat to shoot they are playing off expecting nothing but drives from him. The teams that have quicker, physical gaurds can body him up and keep him from getting downhill taking away his affectivenes. Really not his fault because that is not where he should be playing but we dont have another option besides Domask available right now. Defense and playing within 5-8 feet of the basket are his strengths and comfort zone. So far our opponents haven't exploited our point gaurd situation too much but it's probably going to bite us in the ### a few times if we don't get better at this position no matter who is playing it.

Family obligations trumped watching live today...it happens.
1) Quincy - keep this !!!! up in the B1G season please, it's making my heart sing.
2) Ty showed some spectacular interior passing early. That was fun to watch.
3) Coleman's eurostep floater in the second half + his impact for us plus-minus wise (...that's why he will be a a pro.
4) We looked like a cat with a mouse in the first 25+ minutes, and that's not a knock on Colgate. I really liked the bully ball on offense from 430 in.
5) I am SFR for conference games. Let's GO.

Good to beat the teams we should beat. Loving our free throw shooting lately! THAT can make all the difference in a deep run or early exit in March. Keep it up!

Not trying to speculate or start any rumors here, but what I would like to know from the insiders is how are these two doing? I start getting concerned when the team is amped up after a big sequence and the bench is involved. This is right after Shannon had a great block on a breakaway by Colgate. The bench jumped up except for DGL and AH. Anything here to be concerned about?

Ty is so much better this year. It seems like he is going to his right more than his left this year and that wasn’t an option last year. Also means a reduction in charging fouls. That combined with his improved three point shooting has put him at a whole new level. This seems to be recognized by his draft projection position.

Would love to see Hawk stay for another year and make the same leap. Hasn’t shown the needed progress so far this year.
