Illinois 75, Indiana 71 OT Postgame

I hope you didn't watch the whole game again.... I'm trying to forget a lot of what I saw. Everywhere I go, I'm hearing whistles... I might be a bit traumatized...

Ha! No, I did not. Luckily I could fast forward right to where both Giorgi and Ayo fouled out. Both were still incredibly bad calls. :poop:

I see you didn't actually watch the game. He and GB are the ultimate team players for adjusting to different roles since Ayo and Kofi showed up. They still play their hearts out every game. Trent took over tonight when other things weren't working.

I watched all the games and being team players dont mean that you dont get to play up to your potential . I dont know who makes up these ridiculous excuses for not playing well. What about Trents role has changed ? When did he stop being expected to make open shots and aggressively attack the rim

What Trent did last game is what you would expect any 4 year senior starter with his abilities to be giving you every night regardless of who he is playing with.

MSU starting to resemble a decent team. They played pretty good in Iowa City last night. Always tough to win in E Lansing. With or without fans
MSU has limited guard play and they hung with Iowa due to to Iowas having a porous D. I agree that winning in East Lansing is tough but they do not match up well with us and they are not deep

If there was ever a game that deserved the B1G in 60 minutes treatment, last night was it.
A cavalcade of whistles interrupted by occasional basketball.

Trent is having arguably his best season this year.

So it would be weird to criticize his performance so far this season. And if the issue is simply how he performed last year, why does that matter? He has bounced back in a big way and he is helping us win games. As for the question of how his role has changed with the additions of Ayo and Kofi, the answer is exceedingly simple. He is no longer our primary (or secondary) option on offense. That should be pretty obvious. Instead, he is leading the charge on defense and providing offensive output when necessary. He knows his role on this team and he's playing it pretty darn well in my opinion.

I work with a lot of IU grads. They are not happy with Archie - not enough progress in 4 years. It feels good not having that conversation (at least for most).

3 points

1) to the ayo didn’t show up crowd. having the ability to impact the game when you are NOT scoring is the sign of a great player. Boards, key assists to Trent, and just making IU generally terrified of him on the court so they build walls on him and leave others open is impacting the game.

2) same for Miller. His scoring comes and goes but if you can’t see him busting his butt on defense go see your eye doctor.

3) Curbelo is incredible. He is a playmaker, plain and simple. “Dribbling into a crowd” is also called “collapsing the defense” and he’s a willing and great passer. I love when he has the ball because i can’t wait to see what he’s gonna do with it.

He was a total liability for much of the second half. How many times do you have to drive in to 4 players with no plan and turn it over before you decide to run the offense? He did it most the game. Early on he got bailed out with foul calls. There are times where letting him touch the ball is a massive detriment and then there are the times when he looks like a star. I would have thought he would have figured it out by now or at least shown improvement in taking care of the ball. Once he figures out how to play he will be great but he needs to realize he doesn't need to try to make the SC top 10 every time he touches the ball.
Wonder why he was only charged with 1 TO? 61 assists with 24 TO’s in conference play. Ayo must be a huge liability with 48 assists and 30 TO’s.

Some fans just don't see it the way the majority of us do.

We have one of the most exciting young point guards in the country and yet there are still fans who would prefer our players to pass it around the perimeter until you get an open look or find a lane to make an entry pass.

Driving the lane provides a lot of opportunity for cutters and easy baskets. Penetration is a good thing. ;)

And he is developing into a damn good defensive player although not as good as Ace. I just know I would absolutely hate him if he played for the opposition. His shot selection was questionable but that also will improve. FG% .408
Just as comparison Deron W. FG% .377, 77 assists with 33 TO’s. In conference play as a frosh.

Another impressive thing about his game tonight was in this foul fest, he played 43 minutes with only two fouls. That was huge with both Ayo and Curbelo in foul trouble.
Right. And as far as getting 'caught' or doing something wrong goes, he got whistled for zero fouls. Incredible in context.

He 100% wrapped around his waist with his right hand. I saw it live and understood why they made the call. Not sure how no one else saw it? Maybe it shouldn't have been a foul, but anytime a player wraps their hand around another player's waist like that it will probably get called regardless.
Nope wrong had his arm behind but did not wrap him at all your seeing what you wanna see

He did not "wrap around his waist with his right hand." I saw it live AND I watched the replay they showed.

EDIT: The game is On Demand on WatchESPN. I just watched it again, in real time, and in the replay and it is, without a doubt, NOT wrapped around his waist. It occurs with 2:56 remaining in the 2nd half, for anyone who wants to see for themselves. The replay shows it from the back angle. His wrist and maybe a bit of his forearm make contact with Race Thompson's midsection but it is not "wrapped" by any stretch.
The announcers even commented that from the other angle, it was an anticipatory call. They just assumed he was all over him, but there’s a four inch gap from the other angle.

Both teams looked a a little fatigued.
Good he have a reasonably strong bench
Really hope AM can get his shot back, must be a tough season for him
Big 10 season getting to be similar to the post-tournament "survive and advance."

I can hear Turpin and Tate complaining about the terrible referees from here. Some things never change. Those refs were bad. 54 total fouls. Key-riced.
The records for both combined fouls and combined free throw attempts were both set back on January 26, 1953, when Arizona and Northern Arizona engaged in a hack-fest for the ages. That game featured a combined 84 fouls and 130 free throw attempts

Do you know where we could get a replay? Lots of folks here would like to see it.

If I had to guess, any film that might of existed, has been lost to history
Most of the film from 60 to 70 years ago was not of particularly good quality and difficult to preserve
Perhaps there is an archive (e..g. NCAA, ESPN), but a long shot, I would guess.

Was being sarcastic. Any recordings should have been destroyed.
