Illinois 76, Maryland 64 Postgame

Can anyone who went last night speak to the entry protocols? At the Enterprise center here in St Louis(for the braggin rights game) they had a pre check where you could upload your vaccine card or negative ahead of time.

Does SFC have something like that or are they just checking card/test?

Got tickets for the game against scUM next week and want to be prepared
At my entrance, there was a security guard greeting people at the door. He took a quick look at my vaccine card and ID and sent me through. Honestly, the number of people unwilling to open their coats at the metal detector took longer than anything!

CoHawk is in that tweener Fr-soph stage where instead of knowing you can get to the rim....you just think you can...so he's tentative. Instead of knowing you can make that entry pass....you hesitate. Instead of knowing you can make that shot...you pass it up.

Just watch some of his plays. The ability is obviously there and we've seen it on several plays....it's just a confidence thing.
Once he clears that hump....look out.
Just think how good CoHawks numbers would be if BU would give him 25 + minutes per half......

You don't get 6 offensive rebounds through a lack of basketball sense. Hawkins in still trying to figure out what he can and can't do against high level competition. Early in the season he was able to do whatever he wanted against the little guys and BU even said in his presser that was a disservice to Hawkins playing him out if his role like that. When the competition went up a level he struggled because he was trying to do the same things against better players and it wasn't working.

Hawkins is a smart and skilled player but is basically a freshman as far as playing time is concerned and for someone with his unique size and skillset it can take longer to figure out what he can reliably do in game action.
He reaches in on defense and gets some very unnecessary fouls. Seems to do it most after a missed shot or lost rebound. Just needs to resist the temptation to reach. Often leads to a foul call even if the reach in was clean.

The guard at the south entrance looked at the card picture on my phone, and didn't even ask for my ID.

Hawkins is a great rebounder when he is in position for the rebound.
And he has great hands that grab loose balls.
And his defensive assignment seems to score at will
And often when he is passed out the ball from cofi he looks like bambi
And the offense when running the other team around on defense has to start all over when the ball goes to hawk.
But every player has flaws and at least hawkins average technical per game has dropped.

I don’t know if I missed something, but the banner said 2019-2021. Didn’t his career start in 2018?
I think all the banners are all like that (only include the "spring" year for each season). Not sure why... Maybe it's easier at a glance to know how many seasons each player was here? e.g. Ayo was here for three years (2019, 2020, 2021).

The girl at the main entrance took one look at my MyCarle chart on my phone showing my test and I was in. Never asked for ID or anything. They did act like my 8 and 10 year old kids were criminals for not opening their coats going thru the metal detector though

Agreed. Good points.

Also, I think he hears Coach in the back of his conscience saying "Want minutes? - Stay in your role."

He does best when he doesn't force things. He just needs time. By BTT time, I think we'll see a different and much improved CoHawk.

One more thing: That's a long Terrapin team. After Russell, they went 6-5, 6-6, 6-8, 6-8, 6-9, 6-11. We won't face this much size most nights.

I just had to show my vax card. My daughter had the digital card on phone so she had to show driver license also. Otherwise normal scan tickets on phone and metal detectors

You say when he is position like he just randomly happened to wander to the right spot on the court....that's not how good rebounders work.

Hawkins leads the team in getting yelled at coming off the floor.
Also he's never committed a foul in his life... Seriously how can you be that shocked that the ref called a foul on your reach in 639 times in row, lol. I still think he will be a stud

I don’t get the constant banging on Cohawk. Kid was a 3 star recruit. Only played 6 minutes avg last year. Was forced to play out of position early and is only getting 18-20 mins a game this year. He’s finding his way. He will improve. Is just now figuring out his roll now that everyone is healthy. Let him get his confidence going. By the end of conference season will be a major factor. This time next year will be saying Grandison who?
