Illinois 76, Rutgers 58 Postgame

Always believed 2nd half was result of coaching adjustments. BU doing well in that perspective this year.
Yes. The second half adjustment to Rutgers press was impressive. Easily made it past the line. Got into our offense earlier and got some easy looks.

I thought Dain looked good in first half. I need to go back and watch last couple minutes of the half. Not sure why no minutes after the break.

Awesome win. Anyone know why we didn’t get any DGL? Actually thought he’d be a pretty good press-breaker. Also really don’t want to lose this kid to the portal so surprised at not even garbage time minutes
Surprised me too. Wonder if he’s in the doghouse.

Overall , our best game of the year , IMHO............Got off to a big lead , weathered the storm and put then away in the second half............That leads me to believe we definitely a second half team and when we combine that with our recent great starts in thye first half , i think we are gonna be a tough team to beat this year......

We will know more after the next 2 games , but if we perform like today then the sky's the limit for us.........The Vols play tough D and very physical in the paint......Let's hope we have fair refs and not some SEC lackey's......

I'm running a 101 * fever so I'm gonna go lay down and med up..........

shut down RU's center big time...................
TSJ is good , very very good.............
I was on TSJ about rebounding all week in practice..........
felt we could exploit them on the offensive glass......we had 17 .............team effort there........
we play for championships here every year...............
positive vibe..........now on to MSG........

This game definitely proved that size matters. Rutgers Simpson and Fernandes were way over matched. Tough to play 3 on 5.

Love to see the right guys shooting threes this game and Coleman playing within himself- if he focuses on Defense, rebounding and moving the ball on offense - we can be dangerous

5 takeaways:
1. Shannon looks like an NBA player. Bigger, stronger, faster than everyone else
2. The press will keep giving us trouble. Better teams than Rutgers are taking note of our PG issue.
3. Turnovers and free throws can continue to be a problem, but 7/11 from the charity stripe is better.
4. Defense and rebounding are terrific. Those are directly affected by effort which shows that this team is bought in.
5. 18 pt win @ the RAC? I'll take it every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
I also worry about better teams pressing us, but if you look at it our problems with the press were the worst when Colman was on the bench. He is obviously not Jovic, but we can sort of using him as a point center to bring the ball up. If they try pressing him with a smaller player, that allows a guard like Rodgers or even more Domask to abuse a matchup on an opposing center. CH is what will make us at least able to survive pressing teams.
