I should have started a pool on what page it would take to get to the worst hot takes after a top 5 road win.

Nebraska is legit. This Illinois team is a FF contender. Keaton is the B1G POY/FOY. Mirk is beautifully insane. Tyl.....errr...O440 knows ball.

The rest is all fluff.

This might not belong here, but this win sure opened up some avenues for a slip up, yet still a great shot to win the conference. We're focused on the game @MSU and the game vs MI at home. It's the two on the West Coast that worry me. Those can be extremely tricky. That said, the preconference and early conference games have hardened this team to to be successful in the road. To be able to hang in there from the avalanche of threes Nebraska dropped up, then come out and take control .....they were never flustered. That's huge.

It is those two games that are just sitting out there and nobody is talking about them
I agree about those two games. Though every game worries me.

This is it fellas, this is the real thing.

Our height and rebounding ability, particularly on the offensive end, shooting 1-5, unselfish high level passing, and ability to avoid fouling on defense, we just crack teams in half the moment they aren't hitting all of their shots, it's just so hard to score more points than us over a 40 minute span.

Long season, things can change, but this is championship level basketball we're playing right now.

If Gritty is saying this, you know we're legit :ROFLMAO:

Damn, that was impressive. We took their best shot, weren’t playing our best, but hung in played some outstanding team ball down the stretch. Defense still isn’t great, but it’s pretty good at this point and with the offense we’ve been playing we could go a looong way. Relishing every moment with these guys.

I mean they could be but I watched UCLA get beat at home by what I think is a mediocre IU. USC I just don't they are good. They are a bottom half team in the conference. Both seem like bad matchups for them against us.

My top 10, age shows: Kofi Cockburn, Kendall Gill, Nick Anderson, Dee Brown, KENNY BATTLE, AYO, Kiame Garris, Frank Williams, Sergio McClain, and Keaton Wagler.

Honorable mention: Effrem Winters, Anthony Welch, Bruce Douglas, Dougy Altenburger, Ken Snake Norman. Mike Davis.

"Williams made his case to high-major coaches, and most passed. But when he sent the tape to Illinois assistant Tyler Underwood, he found a believer . . . the film popped for Tyler Underwood, and the first thing that sold him was the passing. Underwood’s father, Illini coach Brad Underwood, loves players who can pass because he equates the skill to basketball intelligence, and Wagler played with his head up, advanced the ball at every opportunity and made every read."

Que the Nebraska homer on YouTube/Instagram/MySpace (/s), etc claiming that Nebraska would have won handily had Kylan Boswell been playing.

AP poll is a joke. Nebraska is not a top 4 team in the B1G. And certainly isn't a top 5 team in the country. The AP will continue to push their bs poll. And networks will continue to advertise it as something important.
Why, as a fan, would you want to discredit one of our best wins? You know, it’s actually good for us if Nebraska actually is a top 5 team.

In the February 1, 2026, matchup between No. 9 Illinois and No. 5 Nebraska, Illinois fielded a five-player lineup totaling 411 inches (average 6’10.2”):
• Tomislav Ivišić: 7’1”
• Zvonimir Ivišić: 7’2”
• David Mirković: 6’9”
• Ben Humrichous: 6’9”
• Keaton Wagler: 6’6”
This first-half combination, utilizing Illinois’ nationally tallest roster, is the tallest documented five-player unit in a top-10 vs. top-10 game. It remains below the all-time college record of 420 inches (UC Irvine, 2015, vs. non-Division I opponent).
Part of me was thinking what Jim Boehiem might have done with that line-up with his zone defense.

420 is, indeed, difficult to beat.

420 inches is average 7’. That’s insane.
