Sorry if it was mentioned elsewhere, what's with the teams wearing white warm ups? I noticed both teams wearing them in the Purdue Iowa game as well. Is it Coaches vs cancer?

Winning on the road always presents challenges and this team keeps finding ways to get it down. Wagner had a great second half. Loved seeing Tomi hit big shots. Kylan being Kylan. A comfortable win despite the refs handing NW a 10-0 run with the two techs.

During that same stretch, our zone defense was giving up a lot of open looks. Count me in the camp that is glad we have a zone / different defensive looks to throw at teams. But I sure hope that zone defense gets improved. It seems we go to the zone more often when Z is in. I’m curious if those with more knowledge than me have a sense of why that might be.
Gave up 2 middle of the lane jumpers to Martinelli which he clunked. Definitely put him out of his comfort zone. I am also happy to see us changing defenses up and keeping them guessing.

The NCAA has really jumped the shark on these hook and hold calls- they are calling it so far from the original intent it seems refs just call any grabbing of the arm a hook and hold- they need to change the rule or instruct refs how to call it. It will cost a team a game this year for sure

A lot of things happened tonight that don’t normally happen.

They are a bad rebounding team. Played us even on the boards.

They are a bad three point shooting team. Hit 9 of them tonight.

Had a guy go for a career night. I was worried about that matchup going in but no way did I pencil him in for 28.

Refs dealt us some adversity.

And who knows how many guys are under the weather.

Still found a way to win. Kylan and Keaton are ice cold. And we got a good Tomi game just when we needed it. We have so many different buttons to push this year. 4-0 on the road to start out conference play is outstanding.
Great points. As you typed, though, they still found a way to win--not sure if that happens last year. That home Nebraska loss really dampened my spirits, but the Illini are gradually ascending to a very high seed.

Welcome back and we needed his A game tonight leading us to another roadkill 79-68 victory......Tomi was moving well the whole game getting off. reb. putbacks and coming up large with 2 three point bombs late to seal the deal......

As coach said in radio post game , " this a fun team to coach " , with different guys each night leading us to a W.....

Waglar was a terror in the second scoring 20 of his 22..........
Boswell played great D on uglynelli holding him down until he had to switch to careergamewhatshis name got hot.....A total team win and now go home to face the goofers...............

This is the first game I felt Wagler pressed at times, but he is sooo good. Great game with a lot of contributors in small ways. Bam was relentless. It was nice to see Tomi have his best game of the year.
Yeah, he struggled a bit after that turnover and the flagrant. But I was happy to see him hit that incredible midrange shot at the end, and he had the two assists to Tomi on the 3's.

Martinelli grabs, throws, and shoves constantly when he doesn't have the ball. Referees could stop that real quick if they had any integrity.

I’ve never officiated basketball so I guess I shouldn’t argue this point. But there are only two colors on the floor to distinguish between. Maybe I’m wrong but this sort of sounds like a solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist.
Coached years ago and has always been the case. In almost every pregame coaches and captains were told about one syllable color designations. Remember it well because we were always purple on the road. Purple became "blue" Lol

This team gets haymakers thrown at them (2 technical fouls in a minute, a phantom loose ball foul on Z, a guy going off for a career night), they shrug and just take care of business.
4-0 on the road in the B1G, including at Iowa, NW and Ohio State. I’ll take that to start any season.
Oh, and I don’t think the Illini are close to their peak performance yet.

Jake Davis continues his clutch play.

A big three and more.

The one he hit with the shot clock running down, where Kylan willed us into a good look we didn’t deserve that possession, was the biggest shot of the game in my book.

And there’s lots of big shots to choose from. But the offense was stagnant for 4 minutes and snapped us out of it.
