The NCAA has really jumped the shark on these hook and hold calls- they are calling it so far from the original intent it seems refs just call any grabbing of the arm a hook and hold- they need to change the rule or instruct refs how to call it. It will cost a team a game this year for sure
I think they should continue to call it, but there should be a level of severity that is not a flagrant one, and then a level that escalates to one and beyond. Both of the fouls called in this game would be the non-flagrant level for me.

Great shooting but I really believe the 30 second shot clock is ruining college basketball. Teams seem to be forced to shoot these shots before the clock runs out. No time to run a proper offense. Glad we have someone who can make them.

I am sure I won’t get any supporters but it is what it is

Can we just get the White FI uniforms added and call it a day and make that set as the regulars again?
Script navy with orange letters and numbers (like the Music City Bowl helmet).

White 1989 version uniform.

Launch the 2016-2025 Nike versions into the sun.

Then we’re done.

Getting rid of the intentional foul was the real problem.

Keaton's flagrant used to be an automatic intentional foul, no review necessary. The guy was on a breakaway and Keaton grabbed his arm and held him back from the ball. As clear as day. The call when Ben got his rebound should have been a common foul.

Pretty hype that Ben still got the rebound though.

Looking back on some of the weird calls against the Illini this season (the intentional foul vs. TT, the hook-and-holds, the phantom loose ball foul last night), I fully expect a "giving him the business" call to go against the Illini at some point, probably in the national title game.
I'm not saying I would take that if it guaranteed an appearance in the national title game, but I'm not saying I wouldn't 😂

For all the KJ comps, and I think they’re totally different style of player, it’s really wild that both Keaton and KJ’s patented move is the step back crossover 3.

Keaton adds a slight in and out dribble to his left, while dribbling right-handed, before the step back though - and it almost always gets the defender off balance before he even separates further on the step back. He has so much more space to shoot after his move than KJ did.

For anyone who has played, as a right handed player, that’s a super awkward and unique move.
I’d take Wagler over KJ any day of the week. His. Composure and lack of turnovers are what does it for me. He’s not near as flashy but he doesn’t ever hurt you at all. I guarantee his + - is way above KJ’s

The call on Wagler was so ridiculous he had his arm interlocked with the NW for maybe .5 a second? That’s not a hook and hold maybe just a hook?

I love watching Wagler play basketball. Last night was the first time I can remember when he made some back-to-back mistakes in that 10-0 run NW and the refs put together that included a TO, hook-and-hold and a shot getting blocked at the rim. But he didn't let it faze him. He just moved on to the next play. The next play is always the most important play in any sport. The young man is just amazing.

How they stay in games with only 2 players is kinda.... surprising (I refuse to use the word impressive)

Smh, wasn't I just reading how he was unplayable? I know. Just let it go.

Actually the call on Ben is the kind of play that the hook and hold rule was written for as it could result in an injury to grab and pull on a guy when he is jumping for the ball.

Definitely more consistent than Kasparas, at least in the scoring category.
There’s an argument to be made that KJ really had nothing to gain and alot to lose by coming back in terms of draft position given how loaded the current class is.

But with Wagler, you could make the argument to him that he may go from #10-#15 to a top 3 pick if he returns because 2027 isn’t near as loaded as 2026.

I can’t believe Kansas let this guy get out of their backyard. I can see how he doesn’t wow you on athleticism but skill, size, craftiness, and having the ability to do a bunch of different things. He’s got the 3. He can drive it. He can draw fouls. He’s got the length where nobody has really bothered him at all this year trying to guard him.

I should have known he was gonna be this good after what Boswell said in preseason about him being a pro. Coaches lie all the times. Players don’t. Players know talent and who can play.

What are the chances that can run on the State Farm big screen as part of the pre-game hype video on Feb 4?

This game leaves me feeling better about our post season chances and I'll tell you why. Go back and watch this game with a focus on the defense out top by both teams. It's a stark difference. Northwestern held, bumped, grabbed on every possession. It's why they stayed in the game. They even grab the guys coming up to screen for our ball handlers. We don't do that very often if at all. We barely hand check.

Someone mentioned only noticing the refs missing two calls. I respectfully disagree. All that contact out top should be called. It's a huge reason why some teams in the B1G don't fare well come tourney time. That the refs allow that in this league is ridiculous. Other conferences don't allow it to anywhere close to the extent this league does.
