Illinois 80, Eastern Illinois 52 Postgame

You can already tell DGL has a crazy high motor. That'll probably keep him on the floor even as the season goes on and the competition gets tougher.

That was cool. Was making my way up to my regular seats in the 200s and was gifted a random upgrade to 3 rows behind our bench.

Wasn't pretty. Didn't shoot it well. But we got some pretty balanced performances from a few guys. And oh yeah....DGL is a dude.

Same, we probably were sitting in the same section! Got treated front row to BU blasting Goode in the 2nd half. He was pissed about a foul when Dain had the block, then he fouled a 3 point shooter, then they gave up an orebound on a FT and Goodes man hit a 3. Goode was nonchalant about in and BU yelled at him that he always had an excuse for everything.

Also TSJ seemed annoyed with Coleman especially after he tried to get fancy on the break and turned it over trying to pass to a wide open Guerrier.

I will say both Coleman and TSJ went out of their way to sign autographs for kids that were asking after the game.

Outside of TSJ being his usual self, I think we need to become accustomed to seeing different players lead the box score each game. Sometimes Hawkins might get the hot hand. Other games it'll be Domask. Dainja will have his moments. Tonight it was DGL and Goode stepping up and hitting big time 3s. It's really going to be a different hot hand each night outside of TSJ

Domask had a tough shooting night but he will be a double-digit guy every game ... Dravyn will get his in non conference easily... Will take him a few games to adjust to Big Ten type of defense ...

Can I get odds on *fart noise* when BU is asked about Hawkins tonight?

Guessing Brad defended the kid we are paying a crap ton of money to ... And a kid that can get in his feelings pretty easily ...

Coleman did not play well ... He was also sick this week ... It was also Eastern ... We won by 30 ... If he plays well against good comp ... That is all that really matters ...

Could be MSU….oh wait Izzo is the best coach in the conference….while I do agree he is a great coach and love Izzo….just remember this when we come out flat against weaker opponents….doesn’t matter who is coaching….coaches can do everything to motivate but if the kids don’t want to do it then they won’t….

Give me Brad all day. Izzo has done some pretty shady crap.

Looking at this package of highlights, I was most impressed with DGL's quick reads on his assists. Looks to me like those reads will be able to take the leap to being ready for B1G defenses when they come.

Flat or roster construction? Echoing latulip that msu can’t shoot from distance. Howser will be missed and wasn’t replaced.

Walker was great but needs some others to step up. All starters (minus sissoko) were 0-4 or 0-5 from 3.

free throw shooting is concerning. Feel like it's going to cost us once real season gets going
Less concerned about free throws than most. Tonight Shannon 5, domask 1, and Hawkins 1, had 7 misses (of Illinois’ 11 misses)

Those shooting lines from Hoggard, Akins, and Hall by the way... A combined 6-of-33 from the field and 0-for-12 from three... That's about as ugly as it gets.

It'd be interesting to compare freshman DGL vs freshman Trent. Trent was an electric scorer and not much of a point guard or defender. He was also tiny and weak. DGL has the ability to be a 3 level scorer, where Trent couldn't score at the rim.

I'm close to sure that Groce hasn't, or we'd have been a bridesmaid a lot less.
Probably, though to be fair, when Beckman was here, we weren't even invited to the wedding. We were the guy in the tracksuit standing outside the courthouse with a placard confessing our undying love unless they get sick or something, who ended up getting arrested for violating the restraining order.

I still like Groce.

If we finally get our Natty, I hope we beat his team in the Championship game. That should earn him another shot at a power 5 gig.
I like Groce as a person. He seems like a genuinely good guy. But I think he's just too nice (for lack of a better word) to be the lead at a high level program.

And I hope he makes me eat those words some day.

You're being too kind to Beckman here. Unmitigated disaster of a human being on many levels.
