We didn't move in NET either. Iowa fell one spot but we stayed at 7. 10 games or so is likely enough for KenPom to be pretty locked in. That's what... 1500ish total games of data?
Looks like we did move up one spot in KenPom. From 8 yesterday to 7 today.

I agree the original poster is just simply wrong. AM is a freshman with multiple upperclassmen I. Front of him that are better offensive options for this year. I have been Impressed with both his D and boarding. He is playing his role for this team. I like seeing him split time with DMW as they are one defensive and the other 3 point shooter. He is a freshman on a very good team.

One of the strengths of this team is that folks know their roles.

Is it just me or did it look like on the last timeout that Giorgi looked very dispirited, he was way on the outside wasn't involved, encouraging as usual.
I noticed it at times during the game whenever the camera showed him on the sideline. Lately, he doesn't seem to be the happy-go-lucky person he usually does. His game also seems off when he gets on the court.

Giorgi has dropped out of Torvik's top 88 BIG player ratings. A long fall from his Freshman year in the 40's.

I timed it to 4.64 seconds, but, I was drinking....
Notice that Ayo is standing in bounds at the beginning of this, waiting for everyone to get in position, I assume. The ref looks impatient and you hear a quick short little whistle, and then Ayo goes out of bounds and the refs hands the ball to him. I wonder if he started counting at the whistle.

Not a ref so I don't know if this is how they do it or not, but would explain the seemingly short count.

When 3/4 of your offense is posting a 7 ft 280 lb behemoth in the paint, you're not running to the rim too often once he's set up there. Ayo gets the vast majority of his rim runs before Kofi is set up.

That's due to Virginia's loss today, not our win yesterday. KenPom updates in real time.
They were ahead in KP of Virginia as of this morning, before their game, due to other opponent adjustments during the day.

I would assume pandemic dynamics have been hardest on someone like Giorgi: he couldn't go home to see family over the summer and he can't socialize with most of the student body during the season. It's got to tap his energy and mental focus quite a bit not being able to be his normal gregarious self around a lot of people. He seems to feed off that.

Wow! Just watched Coach McCaffrey’s press video and man! Way to come off as a real Pr*ck!
Glad he simmered down. I have to say, I get a little tired of seeing SOME of these coaches act like real sore losers in these press conferences. Their contract obligates them to speak to the press, I mean come on. You get paid millions of dollars to coach college basketball. We all have emotions and are huge fans of our respected teams, however, that being said is it too much to act with some decency? It’s not the end of the world. You are going to fine. Your life is far greater than most will ever be. Reminds me of what an !!! Bob Knight was. Lou Henson never acted like that. Great win for the program and the Illini. Still have a hard time understanding how they use Adam Miller or what he is trying to do out there. Another zero point game. I watched him more in the second half and it was more of the same. He just stands there behind the 3pt line in the corner waiting to launch a three. None of which he made and that is about it.
If he is at the top of the key it’s more of that maddening offense of a three guard weave passing nonsense.
I really don’t know what that is. No screens, not driving the ball, just a moronic passing of the ball outside the arc. And one player Kofi trying to establish position.

Then I watched Iowa. Constant movement. High screens. Pick a roles. Bringing Garza out to the three.

I know we won this one. And I am glad we did.
But for the life of me our offense, when set up is just maddening to watch. In my opinion it is so elementary, so easy to defend, so high risk that I can’t believe we Can win with it. It took Trent scoring over 20 and Grandison have a double double.
Glad we beat Iowa. I grew up closer to Iowa city than ChambAna, so I loved we beat them again!!!
Just wish with the talent we have we ran a better offense. Because as I have stated it is just maddening to watch. I am really surprised Adam Miller doesn’t create more of a shot. Never thought of him as some sharp shooting three point specialist but that is about all he does. And it’s not working! Hope he gets more aggressive with his game. He needs to!
On to the next one. Go Illini!!
Just curious what games a lot of this board were watching in the last 4 or 5 before this one. Miller has been outstanding with his 3 point shooting. I think he has a role assigned to him by BU and he is playing his role. Unless everyone is at practice every day, it is difficult to know what he is being told to do and, not to do. Guys are rarely allowed to go out on the floor as freshmen and freelance. Even Curbelo has limited a lot of the stupid stuff that he was doing earlier, though he still has a lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned up. We have to realize that coaching during practice influences a lot of in game play. Miller has a role and has played it very well!

It is not when the ball is released but, when it is touched inbounds or hits the floor when the count ceases.
When the ball is released is when the count stops. When the ball is a half court violation, it actually has to be in possession of a player.

Yes Nnana was great defensively. Really good shot blocker, maybe better than Kofi at that, but Kofi is a much better rebounder and has way more post moves.
Egwu averaged an incredibly pedestrian 6.5 pts and 4.6 rebounds per game throughout his career.

I'm not sure why we still talk about him. Those numbers are awful.

You are correct! I have just seen it called the other way so many times in the past that I simply assumed the officials were making the correct call. My bad!

Rule 7, Section 6, Article 5 (Page 75/140) states:

The thrower-in shall release the ball no more than five seconds after the
throw-in count begins. The pass shall go directly into the playing court, except as
provided in Rule 7-4.6.b.
That is your simple yet important rule: The thrower merely needs to release the ball before the five seconds expires.

(The exception for Rule 7-4.6.b about the pass going directly into the playing court refers to a seldom-made pass after a successful basket or goaltending violation, where the inbounding team may pass the ball between players who are out of bounds at the end line under the basket. The ball ultimately must be passed into the playing court before five seconds expires.)
