Re-watched the game last night. Did anyone else notice Trent giving DJ Stewart the stinkeye as he tried to grab the ball as time ran out?
Saw that - its on the highlights clip as well. Pretty much the Sr. telling the Fr. "chill out -there is no such thing as a 15 point play son". Perhaps Stewart had money on the game at 14 pt loss. :)

Really wish Ayo's cross-over and shot with 10 sec left was on the highlights.

The gif is all the more amazing when you think back to Underwood's couple of seasons. I vividly remember him coming onto the floor screaming at our players at various times. I can't help but think if this had happened 2 or 3 years ago we would see a very different reaction (I think this one is better).

I was saying this game alone is not a good look for award season. Doesn't mean I don't think he's the best guard in the country.
I think/hope that those giving out awards would value more highly the team leader that puts up good stats and leads his team to an easy victory over a top 10 opponent vs. the Trae Young types that put up massive stats while losing (not that it was necessarily his fault). After all, Brunson did beat out Young for the Wooden Award in 2018. Based on who has won in the past, it appears that team success is definitely a big component of who wins. I would much rather have the player that puts up the stats Ayo just did (which were still awesome!!) while playing the way he did (within the team) vs. the guy that scores 7 more points but has to force the issue 10 more times to get there.

Edit: Didn't see your prior post about his stat line being impressive. I agree with you that he may need to do more to win given the loaded talent in NCAABB this year, but I hope he maintains a focus on winning and not awards.

I am not a huge Coach K fan in general. It's weird timing right after a big loss. But... he's not necessarily wrong. The NCAA needs to be constantly evaluating the situation and being transparent about it with its constituents.
Timing is definitely a bit eyebrow-raising, but at the end of the day, this is the realism you want from our leaders across all segments of society. Things have been really bad of late and I personally will applaud those that are being realistic and addressing the seriousness of the situation in front of a camera. And he's 100% right about needing to minimize risks given the vaccine is about to start being distributed. That said, I still selfishly want b-ball to continue -- I don't see the downside of creating a bubbly environment for B1G play.

And FWIW (I don't mean to sound too uncaring here) I would 100% endorse labelling athletes (college and professional) as essential and right behind healthcare workers/seriously ill for the vaccine. I think I'd rather have basketball to watch than toilet paper to wipe with :ROFLMAO: (though my wife would beg to differ)

My first game at Assembly Hall when I was about 8 or so - a year or 2 after Dave Downey graduated. Bogie Redman, Tal Brody, Skip Thoren, Don Freeman. Wow.
Bogie Redmon...that name is legendary, one of the greatest ever to come out of Collinsville. Not until Richard Keene would a product join the beloved.

Bogie was a stud and that Collinsville team were undefeated state champs as seniors, counting my Paris Tigers among their 31 wins. Fred Riddle and Bob Meadows also names I remember.. Riddle signed with Iowa and I am not sure where Meadows played college ball. Rodger Bohnenstiehl, a future All-Stater, Kansas Jayhawk, and NY Knick, was also in high school at the time but was a freshman or soph.

Bogie will be remembered by Illini fans as part of the 63 Big Ten Championship team, a title won on the last day of Big Ten Play. I have never decided who my favorite player on that team was as they had so many, but Don Freeman, at 6'2" and playing mostly inside has to be admired for what he could do. Downey, of course, could score big time. Tal Brody seemed to run hot and cold while Skip Thoren was a solid post player every night.

It appears to me that Ayo is more interested in the team winning than his personal stats. Guess some fans would have it differently.
Never said I wanted it differently. Just said if it is what Ayo wants, he didn't do it well enough against Dook to win the Wooden award.

Thats what leaves are for right? :ROFLMAO: I will be pretty upset if they decided to not go on with the season. The last two seasons are our best teams since the 05 team and we cant even get a chance to see their full potential. The silver lining though is that if we had a tourney last season we would have lost Ayo this year and possibly Kofi. I like having another season to watch with these two.

Loved that high school team but a close second is the Cobden Appleknockers in the 1964 state championships.

Interesting that his performance brought out "meh" responses -- I thought he was definitely noticeably better than Baylor (not a high bar, to be fair) and wasn't forcing the issue nearly as much. I agree too that he was going to the basket when the opportunity presented itself and I'm a fan of avoiding midrange shots unless its late in the shot clock or late in the game (when defenses clamp down). Ayo focusing on everything other than being the man every night (spacing floor, rebounding, defense, passing) is EXACTLY what we need from him -- the more we can make everybody a weapon, the more things will open up and make his life easier. Plus letting the shots slowly come and starting with the easier opportunities is a good way to get the confidence/rhythm needed so that he's on point when its nut crunching time.
Ayo really should have had 21 points in this game. He got royally screwed on that charge call that should have been “and 1”.

My favorite part is Belo’s talks with coach when he comes off. Not sure whether he is explaining what they should do next, how the referees are screwing up, or asking how coach is doing.
I also love the little chest tap from Ayo. Our team has great chemistry this year. Gone are the days of awful body language and crumbling under pressure. These guys believe in themselves and in one another. It's so fun to see.

Without a doubt you want the leaders to be challenging and monitoring the situation. The issue specifically with his 'concern' is 1) the timing as you state, and 2) that we're just about where every serious infectious disease expert predicted (really bad fall and winter). So, if he's acting like this is a surprise, he's either disingenuous or had his head in the sand prior to the season starting. Where was his concern prior to the start based on that prediction? I get that sometimes it has to hit you in the face to get it, but what I'd prefer from a leader is to be proactive rather than reactive. This feels reactive based on his realization his team's not going to go anywhere anyway (but that could just be the skeptic in me).

Having had to travel (unplanned and unwanted) for 3 days last week I can definitely understand the stress it puts on a team/organization. I would actually be ok with taking a pause for two months to get past the worst and get vaccines going. The problem, however, is the additional emotional challenge for the players. Do they practice? Will they keep as diligent in avoiding the virus?

But the facts don't support your argument/opinion. He had one of the most well-rounded games of the year, on the road, against a top 10 team. Those kinds of performances are exactly what puts you in NPOY conversations. The guy who leads D1 in scoring is rarely the NPOY.

Completely see why his statement would be taken that way and honestly agree with you too -- he didn't exactly offer many solutions and there's probably a good reason for that. I think both things can be true at the same time. His willingness to forgo the season is probably in large part due to his team underperforming, but it can also sometimes (unfortunately) take seeing awful things happen to wake up and realize the prognosticators were not just messing around.
