I loved the fact we actually tried fronting the post instead of just letting guys catch and back us down and shoot over us. Great move because most college players I have watched are not good at throwing the lob pass. Wrong technique is almost always used on the pass, unfortunately by our guys as well. Great move by the staff!

On top of that they were clearly baiting Purdue into the lob for a steal or backside help and a trap of the post.

I said in the pregame post that we'd have to have near-flawless guard play. :) Thanks Hill and Nunn!!!

GO ILLINI! Lets start a W-streak!

Wow! Made it all afternoon without seeing a score for this or the NFL playoffs. Accidentally saw the score while pulling up the replay, and wasn't even a little bit upset. Great win!

Not sure about everybody else, but I love watching Kalid play. Savvy veteran who plays with a good head on his shoulders. Watching him bait Hill and Thompson into touch fouls as he carried the ball up was a thing of beauty. Super smart too, as the three touch fouls he earned put us in the bonus early.

2 other non-game points from today. The National Anthem was incredible and the kids at halftime were also!

This was the first big ten game under Groce that Illinois has shot over 50 percent! Other than Purdue's two 7 footers, I don't see much talent difference between Illinois and Purdue (even with our injuries). It may be biased to say that after a home win where we played our best game all year, but I think we still have a team that is talented enough to make the tournament. Unfortunately, we have put ourselves in terrible position to make the tournament with our poor record. At least we have a high SOS, maybe that will give us a chance.

It depends on which tournament you're talking about. It would be a huge accomplishment for this team to reach the NIT.

Lewis's game has notably improved since the mumps. Or is it the headband? I seem to recall a headband serving another Illini well.

Great game, just finished watching. As good as we can play given personnel and injuries. Obviously great performances from Nunn and Hill, but also very good team defense.

Mav and Finke also contributed at key points in the game, but I thought one of the key performances was by Khalid Lewis. Very solid game.

Amazing things happen when you make shots and play defense.

I attribute it all to coaching, lol. Go Coach Groce!

Game plan goes to Coach but making the baskets and creativity goes to the players. So it wasn't ALL Groce. Great team effort so bring on Nebraska.

That was a good feeling.

Aggressive defense which take's away Purdue's inside game.

Swarming defense.

Blocking out and attacking the boards defense.

Poetry in motion. :chief::chief::chief::chief::chief:

Watched the game again - kudos to the team for actually running the offense and knocking down the shots. Groce preaches they must trust the system and the team - and last night - they trusted each other. Mav and MF played very hard to front their bigs on D and our swarm to the bigs took them out of the game. Nice team win.

And to think I got attacked on this board just for saying we had a chance. Enjoy your delicious crow people. :thumb:

mmmm, tasty. Seriously, I didn't give them much chance and was expecting a loss. Maybe by double digits. Glad to see such a strong game by so many players, and especially that they closed it out like a boss. One game does not make a trend, but it sure as heck makes it more interesting to see if they can do it again.
