The John Groce philosophy on offense is not to employ an offense.... same with defense.
John Groce can't play defense for Finke and Mav. Coach is accountable for his team but those players need to step it up while they're wearing an Illini jersey.

We must have been watching a different game. Illinois doesn't win that game without Hill. Yeah he had that dumb turnover that led to the dunk but that was a bit fluky. Regardless, yes he should have slowed it down instead of trying to push it.
Also, I think you're getting that missed 1 and 1 confused with Tate.
That is the one thing I like about this game. It gives the team so positive experience in a close game. That confidence from winning a close game can help in the Big.
I really think Leron will be in the NBA someday. Has a great all around game and if he so happens to start hitting his threes watch out. Dude is a ball of energy.
UI looked embarrassingly unprepared again tonight. Thank goodness for Malcolm and Leron. We may have lost by 15+ without them.
Side note: I've seen more than enough guards banking in key 3s against us. First Johnson from Winthrop and again tonight. So annoying.
Turnovers haunted us in the first half but the defense was atrocious in both. They made some tough shots but we give opposing teams too much confidence and it shows in their shooting %. It's ridiculous that we give each sub 100 team hope that they can beat us on our home floor. Sure, we don't prepare for these types of teams as well as top 100 teams but we can't play as if the game has already been decided by vegas. We have a low floor and these guys need to play hard to prove it to other bad teams that they can't hang with us. We come out with so much more energy against good opponents so we know that decent defense is possible but it needs to be like that every night. I'm glad that it was an ugly game because the team needs as many reality checks as possible. I don't blame every player though, our frontcourt needs to be as tough as Black but so far they've been the polar opposite.
I guess my point is that, while a great scorer, Malcolm continues to frustrate me at times by seeming soft/passive on defense/loose balls/rebounding. He reminds me of Scottie Pippen in that I think he could be the best "2nd banana" in college ball... But he sometimes fails to lead as the alpha.
Regardless- I didn't mean to knock Malcolm's game tonight or anything... Just voicing the opinion that he occasionally frustrates. While as of late, LB does nothing but impress
This win honestly feels worse than our loss to West Virginia
Black compares favorably to Draymond Green actually.

You're nitpicking against Malcolm, while ignoring nits that could be picked against Leron. After the aforementioned missed free throw that you hastily attributed to Malcolm, Leron got the rebound and promptly gave it back to IUPUI by dribbling out of bounds.... It's simply looked at as a win by the selection committee. The selection committee doesn't take margin of victory into consideration like the BCS.
Uh, that would be Malcolm.

For all the crap Weber takes on this board, he taught his teams defense. Hands in the face and man to man. We are a zone team and leaving guys open.
It still baffles me that a Big Ten team falls back into a zone defense against mid-majors consistently. You would think our players, as a whole, are significantly more athletic/gifted than middle tiered teams but it doesn't seem that way.
Malcolm scored efficiently tonight. I don't think he will ever truly have that LB bulldog mentality, just doesn't seem to be in his blood. However, he always seems laid-back, calm and collected which I think is a plus at times. Also enjoyed him throwing down some dunks today that he would prolly lay in last year.
Love Leron's game and energy. He should get significant minutes and only come out when in foul trouble. Seems like he dropped his moving screen foul average from 1.5/Game to 0.5/game so that should help.
Not a fan of Tate on the floor purely because the offense is stagnant. I can accept occasional TO's from TJL as long as they are aggressive moves to the hoop.
No that would be Black. Hill best offensive but all around black is better.

I think Lucas and Tate were both bad tonight. Abrams was the guy tonight. That being said, its nice to have 3 solid point guard options, if one or two are struggling.
