Illinois 85, Maryland 80 Postgame

Hawkins over helped on that play, leaving Scott open. Hummel called it when he said Scott was a guy you don’t leave open behind the arc. I think you play good defense, but make sure you don’t give an and one.
Guy in the game thread told me that it was the right play to help off and leave scott wide open because scott isnt that good.

Maryland coach was complaining he didn’t get any foul calls?????? There were 60 free throws in the game? What’s he talking about? It’s incredulous. Every time Young drove it seemed like he got a foul called. That game was hard to watch with all of the fouls called. I mean there was some ticky tack baloney being called and letting the hard stuff go. Don’t get it. Anyway great win by the Illini. Tough to keep a lead when the refs keep playing tunes on there whistles all night.
Agree. Yes, of course, it needs to be called the same both ways (it should be fair). But my biggest gripe is that the crew needs to make consistent calls throughout the whole game. The team that doesn’t adjust their play will have a really hard time.

I didn’t understand how this game was being officiated. In the first few minutes, it seemed like nothing would be called and I was like “okay, they’re letting them play, let’s go.” But then sometimes they were calling the smallest contact. And then they’d let some go again. Never could get a sense of what was too much contact. Imagine how frustrating that is for the players!

The one thing I will say is that it's almost impossible for anyone to complain about them being unfair if they just call every play a foul. Even that play where Willard caught the ball while standing in bounds they somehow missed the most obvious inbounds violation of all time by Quincy.
That Quincy pass was off a rebound, not an inbounds, wasn’t it?

Wow. Bit of a sore loser tonight. Can't say I remember any of his previous post game sessions, but he was bitter. Fuggem.
So Willard starts by catching a ball that's in play and then give a pointing finger lecture to TSJ. Then he whines like a little b_itch about foul disparity without one complimentary word about Illinois. Brad went out of his way to say nice things about the crowd, Kevin's efforts and their defense. I think it's time for Brad to have a quick meeting at the closest Pizza Hut!:shield:

That's nice of you. In all honesty, my wife has been on to me for years. She says, "I know you know. You just don't want to take the time".
My wife also thinks I know everything. I don't consider that to be a negative thing. LOL

It was under a minute left ... TJ was at the line for FTs and right before DHS hit that 3 ... Hamer stood up and gave the no foul signal ... Not Brad ... Hamer ...

In that situation ... I am 100000% fouling ... Because of exactly what happened ... DHS hits that 3 ...

Literally was losing my mind ...
Sorry, Indy....love your stuff but I gotta disagree with you on this one. No way the team with the lead fouls with a minute to go up 6. You have to guard against the 3 point line and absolutely can't let them hit a 3 pointer (which they did) to keep it a 2-possession game. You absolutely don't want to stop the clock and let them get free throws. Only time you would foul would be if you're up 3 with under 10 seconds and you don't want to give them a chance to tie so you foul. Love all your posts but I stand with Hamer (whoever the heck he is :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:) on this one.

Also hurts that Jahmir Young and Tyson Walker were hunting those mismatches. Two of the better guards in the country.

Malik Hall also just bullied him being bigger and stronger.

Not every matchup will be as bad as these last two.
The problem with Goode is he’s not hitting his threes or free throws lately and he’s become such a liability defensively with teams now seeking him out and his rebounding has declined

I’m a fan of Goode, but he’s been a liability recently

Which preseason? It seems that we hear it every preseason.
I know. I got a chuckle remembering those discussions on here while I was looking at the box score. Ya think we’d have learned by now. Brad as about 80% of all D1 HC’s like a nice, tight rotation — especially this time of year. I think Brad’s head would explode if he tried to consistently employ a 9 or 10 player rotation.

Commentators even said MD was seeking him out there near the end if I'm not mistaken
