I am really impressed with the Morehead coach and Minix.

This guy is a good coach and I expect to hear about him and his teams in the future.
Minix was a classy athlete that played really well but could still give props to the team that won.

A nice look for them and for their program.

I didn’t see this mentioned anywhere on the postgame thread, and I’ve been staying out of the game threads since the start of the Big Ten tournament (you’re welcome):

I thought today’s game was really well officiated. Not sure where those guys came from but they just let the teams play. Yes there was a late whistle here and a no-call there. But I thought they called it pretty fair, consistent throughout (most importantly), and didn’t interject themselves into the game.

So I guess this is a ref. appreciation post
😳🤢🤷🏽‍♂️

I really didn't notice, yell at, or wonder what the heck the refs were doing at all. It feels completely strange to not say wtf at least once about a call.

Just had a chance to watch, and couldn't agree more. One of the better postgames I've seen. Credit to the coach for establishing that type of respectful culture; says a lot about him and the players.

Agreed, there was only one play where I hated the call initially, and I was totally wrong.

After watching this post game I kinda feel bad about kicking their !!!. Classy bunch of kids and coach.
I really appreciate you posting this. Class acts! Their coach is teaching things way beyond basketball and our world needs that right now. Now I’ll focus on basketball as long as this train rolls but remember be good people work hard believe in something bigger than yourself and if you do those three things have fun!!! ILL

Their band and what appeared to be the cheerleading section repeatedly taunted TJ during free throws in the way you would guess, in the second half. They aren't -that- classy.

There are three major defining moments that have gone down in Illinois roundball history in the last several years.

Defining Moment #1:

When Trent stayed true to his lllini commitment and came to the Prairie State and became a beloved player.

Defining Moment #2:

When Home-State Ayo passed offers from more successful programs (at that moment in time) and said he wanted to come and help restore Illini basketball to greatness.... and became a beloved player.

And...

Defining Moment #3:

When Terrence Shannon Jr. passed up other offers to return to the State of Illini and thus (now) become one of the Illini All-Time Greats. And became yet another beloved Illini player.

Three Defining Moments in recent Illini history.

And now... time to make Defining Moment #4!... Just ahead... getting closer and closer...
Well the credit for defining moment #3 clearly goes to Juwan Howard. Duh

So thrilled for so many of our players:
1. Domask with the 10th triple double in NCAA tourney history and first since Ja Morant. Offense was not there but he was a willing passer, made the effort on the glass, and then got a few buckets to seal the deal. Even when his offense isn't there, he's doing the extra things to help the team win
2. Dainja with an offensive explosion in the 2nd half. We exploited their big men. So happy for Dain and hopefully the end to this season will keep him in Orange and Blue next season
3. DGL's contributions in the 1st half should not go unnoticed. Played lock down defense and made two key 3 pointers. He was a ball of energy and I'm happy he was able to make a big impact in the 1st half
4. Goode had 3 impactful 3 pointers which was much needed for his confidence
5. Last but not least, Terrence Shannon Jr doing Terrence Shannon Jr things. He put the team on his back in the 1st half and if it wasn't for him, we might be looking at a different outcome.

Let's get past Duquesne and get that Sweet 16 appearance that we have been thirsty for the last 19 yrs
And some important blocks by Hawkins, as well as 5 unanswered points, near the end of the game. Truly a team victory.

I was so not worried after I saw them trying to score with us, I laughed and made nachos.

I knew what was coming in the second half. I’ve been paying attention!

This team is different. Top to bottom.
