So, about that Hawkins goal tend. Here is what I saw:

1. Hawkins missed the ball when trying to block it (I saw no evidence that he touched it, including the ball not changing rotation).
The ball suddenly accelerates as Hawkins hand goes by. Physics says there must be a cause. In slo mo, you can see a slight change in direction and rotation as well. I was sure they were going to overturn it.

2. His hand then hit the backboard.
3. The ball was on the rim/hitting the backboard at that point.
4. Is this not a goal tend? You can't slap the backboard when the ball is in the air towards the hoop and certainly not when the ball is on the rim/backboard.

I wish they would get on the mic and explain, like football (and now baseball). I suspect that was the final call.

Now, if he hit the ball, then there was no goal tend. But I saw no evidence of that.

What a win against a #2.." Eddie, If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewed to the carpet, I wouldn't be as surprised as I am right now."

Am I the only one who thinks that Texas defense intensity died off the more the game went on? Did we just wear them out?
Texas played excellent defense for most of regulation, but do think that they wore out at the end. Their guards cramping was a sign of that.
Surprised no one has talked about our excellent free throw defense on Hunter’s 1 & 1 with 20 seconds left to get the ball back…../s but let’s face it, that was huge.

Skyy's potential is...well...high....but Epps and Sencire are doing so much to earn PT right now. Just absolute dogs.

As advertised.
Epps and Skyy imo both do freshman things. I’m personally not concerned with either. They will do nothing but get better throughout the year and honestly, I feel like they’re ahead of the curve of where I thought they would be at this point so excited for this year.

Texas really screwed up in 3 different plays in the last minute:

1. A good FT shooter (92% on the year, but only 68% last season) missed the front end of the 1-1.
2. Then they run over Epps for no good reason 35 feet from the basket. (Major kudos to Epps for making those free throws. Absolute nails for the freshman)
3. Letting Marcus Carr have the ball for the last shot in regulation. What a chucker. I loathe players like him.

Good for the Illini though. They hung around and "out enduranced" them.

All in all, the contribution from ALL the freshmen is pretty amazing. I think Ty is a little behind because he hasn’t found a way to score yet.

I just hope Texas doesn't go into a mini-tailspin now, which would lessen this victory a little. I don't see it happening, but one never knows.

The Illini just proved to the World (and themselves) that they can play with anyone in the Country. ANY...ONE.

World’s most famous roundball floor. Top veteran team opponent. Pressure atmosphere. Illini not playing well for stretches of the game. Got down deep well into the second half.

But... kept their poise. Hit key shots and played energetic defense. Clawed their way all the way back. Talented freshman hits pressure free-throws with game on the line. Seized the lead and did not surrender it.

And again... they did NOT play at their best for stretches of this game. Which means...

There is no limit to what this Illini team can accomplish.

And Our Orange is still better than ‘Their’ orange.

Right now it’s dark on the streets of New York City and in the Prairielands of Illinois. But the Illini’s future’s so bright We gotta wear shades...
I agree for the most part, but NYC never sleeps.

The pictogram explaining the difference between a chucker and a volume scorer is Marcus Carr's team photo.

I will go to my grave mad that damonte didn’t hunt his shot more. Never have I seen a good shooter not want to shoot like him. Lol
Seriously? Are we back to slamming Damonte Williams? Come on man. He gave us everything he had for 5 years. I’m so tired of the way our fans treat DMW. He was perfect at his role. Did whatever the team needed and did it selflessly. Not the most talented player we’ve ever had, but hard working and a great teammate. Not to mention that he is the son of one of our all time greats. Can we all just cut it out with the Damonte bashing?
