These freshman are absolutely legit and are amazing building blocks for this team. The length is real as well, can definitely cause some teams problems but need to see more effort on the glass.

Just to add Clark has some of the best handles I have seen for any player period.

Loved the defense. Not too worried about the offense just yet --figure most teams will look sloppy. 3 warm-up games before a ranked opponent --they'll need them.

MVP of game? Illini cheer squad and Ms. Shelby sideline reporter. All kidding aside good job overall will be some good film watching and teaching going on tomorrow at practice. Go getter in Nebraska. I L L I N I

Brad gave a nice interview to the young lady doing the court side coverage. She’s obviously a neophyte—which as an olde pharte I can appreciate—and Brad did a lot to set her at ease and made her the most important person in the Assembly Hall for that minute. Kudos to Brad.

Obviously can't take too much away from this game but I do know one thing- this will be a different team than any I've watched in my 20+ year career as an Illini fan.

We'll need all 120 minutes of these next three games to get ready for Vegas. Lots of things to clean up and chemistry has a ways to go I think. But that's to be expected.

Our core of Hawk, RJ, TSJ will be solid. Skyy is already B1G material. And as many have said, I was pleasantly surprised by Sencire. I think Dainja flashed some good stuff too.

Now let's wash that down with a Nebraska beat down tomorrow.

Only one televised game left on B1G+ and I don't have to listen to Karinia or whatever her name is that made my brain have a stroke everytime sideline report came in

Listened on the radio and have one comment. This team will sorely miss Plummer and Goode. There are no pts. that go on the board to guys running fast and jumping high. Need players who can put the ball in the net and defend.

Biggest disappointment...Mike M. Best to meet expectations...CoHawk (with a gold star to RJ and Ty). Biggest surprise....Harris.

Lots of work to do to get into the top half of B1G...but the talent is there. Arc shooting looks to be a challenge but on a positive note the defense could once again be their calling card. But much like most observers see, still big questions on how consistently good this team can and will be.

Overall, the best thing I can say is that it was a first game for a team of newcomers. Back to work to get 3 wins before getting in a slug-fest in Vegas.

Good game overall after the initial jitters. Would like to see more verbal communication among the players. There isn't just one leader on this team, and I suspect leadership won't always manifest as one guy pulling everyone together. With so many versatile players, it will be interesting to see who stands out. My personal observations without having looked at the full box score:

Skyy: Exactly who we thought. Smooth, natural handles, well-rounded. Solid. In the first half I saw him pass up a few open enough shots, but he started to take them more in the 2nd half.

TSJ: Reliable and fluid. Seemed comfortable in all aspects of the game. Very good defense.

RJ: Picking up right where he left off, so basically exactly what I wanted to see.

Mayer: Clearly one of the most talented and experienced. Looks like he knows what he's doing. Helps the versatility of the team on both sides of the floor. Spin move is sick.

Coleman: We got good Coleman. Play like that consistently against better teams (aside from inbound issues), and I'll be happy.

Ty: Lifts his teammates and his team, nullifies the opponents in various ways. Made an instant impact his first play in to help get rid of the jitters. Does everything 100%. Great rebounds.

Dain: In the first half looked a bit out of sorts, which is to be expected. Second half started to flow more and compliment the other players. Some good putbacks but also some unnatural moments. Needs to work on free throw shooting. I expect him to continuously refine throughout the season.

Sencire: Intense on defense and plays with a high energy level. Seems like the type of player who will always inject entertainment value as well.

Jayden: Seems balanced overall and will fit in to this playstyle just fine. In future games, I look forward to seeing him potentially drive the ball more. Seems to be a part of his game not showcased tonight.

Lieb: Fit into this defensive style better than I thought he would, and he looks more polished overall.

Paxton: Seems to play with equal parts determination and heart.

Skerven: Flowed fine with what team and I believe he got a nice assist.

Is she an experienced reporter or a student learning her craft? I could see improvement in her delivery from the start to her post-game interview with Brad. Sheesh, give the kid a break.

And it bothers you that much, just use the mute button. Think of it as stroke prevention.
