Illinois 88, Michigan 73 Postgame

I'm old enough to remember when fans here said stupid s*** like theyd rather coleman go pro than come back. LOL
I definitely fall into the 'old' crowd..... but those comments weren't all that long ago, lol..... Coleman was certainly a long shot to make it into the NBA draft previously.... but barring a late NCAA season collapse. I feel he is a likely 2nd round prospect now.....

The dude has been playing at a 1st team level for the last 5 games ... Elite ...

We probably just witnessed the best game he will have in an Illinois uniform from a statistical standpoint ... Special, special performance ...
You dont get to see players grow & mature anymore.

Watching Hawkins step up post injury & TSJ suspension is pretty cool after last year.

Quincy Guerrier ... I think has been the MVP of our season ... I mean that dude is playing at such an elite level ... Might be the best cutter that Brad has had ...

Crashes the glass every possession ... Makes open shots ... Never question his effort ... Not hunting for shots ... Just the complete opposite of a certain guy we had last year ...

I just keep thinking about how he was the missing piece on that 2020-2021 team ... And how if Brad had him all 5 years ... How good would this dude be ...

Special player ... Really enjoy watching him play ...
Speaking of crashing the glass. Its fun to see Goode show up as a rebounder and paint prescence the last few games...

It won't be when we need to get stops defensively ... Michigan hunted him out every possession he was in there ...

I really like the kid offensively and I see the potential ... But he has a long way to go defensively in order to see meaningful minutes ... Especially for a coach like Brad where defense is non-negotiable...
Part of it is he's soooo tiny.

Dude needs some Fletch-ing.

One day, Juwan Howard will finally seek help. Maybe his family will convince him. Maybe it’ll be a call from Chris Weber, like, “Ima keep it real with you, Wan. Mike Vick’s dogs were more emotionally stable than you. Go see a professional.”

And when Juwan finally makes it to that therapist’s couch, a whole lot of sessions will be spent describing a recurring nightmare about a burly man in an orange jacket with a big menacing grin, repeatedly and repeatedly and repeatedly beating his ***.
I read this and envisioned Coward lying on the therapist's couch, crying and then opening his eyes only to realize that his therapist was Brad Underwood. Then Coward screamed. Hahaha

Did anyone but me notice the stretch when Ty went out with the Iilini up 8 and Michigan scored 7 in a row. He comes back in and in a little over a minute the lead was 11.
Yes - the substitution pattern was obviously odd tonight, but one thing that was clear was Ty needed to be on the court, he offensive aggressiveness has found a new gear and his defensive intensity is always high, he's our glue guy. When he develops a mid-range jump shot - which he will, he's going to be one of the best players in the big ten before he's done

For the longest time...Coleman was the type of player I would get frustrated at. I felt like throwing my remote at the TV at times, I'd yell so loud that people within a 5 mile radius probably thought they heard me or my powerful farts.

Now...he's rocking it. Playing his best basketball of his college career. He's been more consistent. Just flat out ballin'. What a story.

I hope you all listen to COLEMAN in this clip. This is fantastic!!
Yeah. Obviously comes from a solid family background, is patient and has worked hard. Lots of us note this on the Board regularly but when you watch him in isolation during the games the small things he does... the footwork, the defensive positioning, the movement on offense without the ball, the passing (>95% of them)... it's sublime and such a treat to enjoy. I love the little details about the game that create turnovers, stops and offensive opportunities. CoHawk does it all. I was so pleased last evening to see him shine, particularly down the stretch.

And Quincy, man... if only we'd had him from the outset, what a beast.

Also, Michigan is not bad. We're just a lot better that they are. After we punched them in the mouth early they hung with us for around 20 mins before we began to pull away 5-6 mins into the 2H after deciding to play consistent defense. For some reason I focused on McDaniel and Nkamhoua, who were really effective. Didn't realize until I got home that Reed had 20 and led them in scoring. We wore them down on D in the 2H. Once McDaniel started launching bricks from behind the arc, and Coleman seized kids' lunch money every other time down the floor, it was over.

So is Dain just a liability now? 3-4 minutes a game to make a sweet pass, play crap defense and get a foul? What's going on with this guy?

I know this has been asked before, but seriously, how does a 'road game only' suspension work?
"I'm disappointed in your lack of academic application, and we have rules concerning that, but not so disappointed that I'm willing throw away the entire season by benching you at home and putting my job, and thus the pro prospects of my son, at risk."

Yeah, call me a cynic. ;)
