I visited my son that lives in Columbia Mo for Christmas. He attended the UI and is a huge Illini fan, so he had fun with his coworkers this week. I took my 14-year-old pup with me. He pooped every single time in yard of the only one in neighborhood with a Missouri flag in the front yard (without encouragement). He is the best dog I have ever had

We have 5 Final Fours to their zero. 9 Elite Eights to their 5. 11 Sweet Sixteens to their 7. All time winning percentage of .639 to their .583. We are often considered to be the best college program to have never won it all.
We are a better program that Mizzou. We still should never end this game.
As I said earlier in thread, beating Missouri isn’t as important to me as beating many of our BIG rivals. But that doesn’t mean I think we should get away from the rivalry. I realize the series isn’t 100 years old, but because of the geographic proximity it is an important game for many. And I think that is important.
As an Illini fan, you hate NC because of the NCAA tourney loss or school X because of a loss in some other big game. In most cases I’d bet that the hatred is born out of you already being a fan and then living through that loss. I’d guess there are a relatively small number of people who watched the Illinois-NC tourney game as neutral and are now huge Illini fans because of the loss. But a MO-Illinois game can and likely does create new Illini (or Missouri) fans every year. And because it is a nonconference game and happens just once a year at about the same time each year makes it special. Why even think of ending it? You want a UC game against a top opponent each year? Fine, get rid of RGV, NC A&T or Citadel.
The Bragging Rights game isn’t as important to me as it is for many others because I grew up in the Chicago burbs. That doesn’t mean I can’t see the importance of the game for other current Illini fans as well as creating future fans who will one day come on Loyalty and post something crazy like “this year’s” 2046 team is better than the 2021 team we are enjoying now.

Very few people are claiming we should end this game. But the person to whom I was responding specifically said we shouldn't because we are not better than them. That's outright nonsense. We shouldn't because it's a rivalry, it's fun, and it's usually a quality win/loss.
