As much as I absolutely love Ayo and that team, I don't think it's recency bias to say this game tops that one. Not by much, but it does, imo.
As you said, there was no crowd for that game, our leader wasn't out, and obviously nobody had the same level of legendary performance that KW did today. It was still a huge win, don't get me wrong, but I think today's game does top it.
For all those people who think our offense is just "chuck as many 3s as possible", this is for you.
He did, but notice when he did that, once he handled business and the game was in hand. He was the more mature player today.

I always think it’s kinda funny when teams like St. Peter’s make a sweet 16 and then we say “sweet 16 at best” for illinois. Idk By his thinking there are probably only about 6 teams that can make the S16. Going to be a weird tournament with byes in the 3rd and 4th round.

That’s not even getting to the 30s and 40s
loved loved loved that game (I was a senior at UIUC at the time) but we lost our PG and the season tanked after that
I was thinking about that when I read that Boz was hurt, glad we have multiple players who can handle the rock this year unlike 1979, and when Boz gets back watch out!

That fact that Purdue is coached by Matt Painter and not Curly Howard makes this win seem even more unlikely
I saw the Illini beat Magic and MSU and did not believe they could do it...or did do it. I saw MSU play earlier that season and told my Dad they were the best team I had ever seen and that they would win the NCAA title. The Wake game I half expected the result. This team can really get the job done in many ways, but tonight we saw them all clicking together...eventually....and the finish was a talented bunch tantamount to Secretariat racing like the win down the stretch at Belmont.
There is a new standard of play now....and they know what it looks like.

Ayo didn't play in that game.

look at the offensive rating torvik had for this game. out of this world. when the number 1 and 2 offenses met..... number 1 said I run this side of the court.. not you.
Forgot about Weatherspoon, Deon Thomas, and Kiwane Garris.
Bottom line, Wagler is really good and he’s special. However, Illinois has had a lot of really good, special, and great players.

Thanks to Xfinity I couldn't watch game on Fox 190. Some message error crap. Has happened before. I reset/restored box. AI chat help was useless. Artificial stupidity.
Oddly enough, Xfinity recorded the game per my request this morning. Groovy. Watched. Will watch again - a keeper.
God bless Deon and Brian on WLS. They are superb. And I don't do superlatives often.

it's all fun and they are comedians / clowns but just keep in mind they "love Illinois" veneer is pretty thin to me. they smile through their teeth and secretly hate Illinois. remember they are the influencers your grandpa warned you about. I just wish there was more college basketball content out there for junkies like me. but we take what we can get... for now
