I’ll be honest - I was not impressed at all. That was an absolute clinic in how to play basketball.
That was what happens when a national title contender plays a team that was sixth place in a mid-major conference.

I get wanting to support your team, but honestly Duquesne never really had much more than a puncher’s chance. I knew 2 minutes in that Duquesne was in a heap of trouble.

Hey where is the Duquesne fan that was in the pre grams thread?🤣🤣🤣 we ain’t Rutgers
I have some sympathy for the Duquesne fan. I know how powerful the reticular activating system can be. You see what you want to see and miss everything else. I've been there many times in my orange colored glasses.

The punkers became the punkees just a few seconds after the tip. Reality must have sunk in quickly for our single serving friend.

The lesson for the youth of America is this: your team can lose a game and you can quietly sulk in anonymity. Or, your team can lose a game and you get to become a punchline due to an overconfident post you made. Choose wisely.

I have to say I was very happy with how relatively uninvolved the refs were in this game, compared to our terrible B1G refs constant overinvolvement, calling ticky tack crap, especially at key moments. Makes the game WAY more fun when they stay out of the way.

Shannon is a guy who was a role player at his former school, averaging around 10 points per game. Not highly recruited out of highschool, he worked himself into the superior tireless athlete that he is today. And, I'm sure that Coach had alot to do with his success, building a team around his break-neck speed and bull-like rush, his soft touch from the 3 point and free throw line. Not to mention his on the ball defense!
I would like to know 10+ players in America who are better than him.

His off the court incident must have kept him off the FIRST team; his skill and accomplishmeshments sure didn't...
Ive seen all of the great Illini since the 50's-- he tops them all.

If he wins a natty it won’t be debatable

I'm soooooooooo happy! Such a looooong wait since 05.
The way our guys played tonight was amazing. We are peaking at the perfect time.
Seems there's still no love at all for Illinois from anyone out there. Everyone on the Houston, UNC, Purdue bandwagons.
Let's just keep flying under the radar all the way to the Final Four.
Go Illini!
I think UConn is the favorite until someone prtoves differently.

I agree not much love from the national media. They wanted us to lose to have Cinderella story for next week. Go Illini beat ISU.

It was kind of interesting on the pregame Candace Parker was prompted on how Duquense might be able to win and she gave and answer but it seemed really half hearted. Everyone at the desk looked like "yea that ain't going to happen." I think they all quietly expected Illinois to run them off the floor but nobody said it.

we all saw early what this team could be, and to see how they have arrived is just so special. They get more solid every game and I guarantee they strike fear into every team that looks at facing them. I am so happy and proud of our guys and especially for TSJ, in my opinion the most complete and best player in the nation, backed by some incredible talent, and to come together at the perfect time is what dreams are made of. Thank you thank you thank you to all the fans and a super big thank you to the fans that traveled to support the team.

We're like the Beatles of College Hoops.
Anytime The Beatles are mentioned, I gotta say "Yeah, yeah, yeah!" (Saw them 8/21/1966, Busch Stadium, St. Louis, $5.50 for best seat in the house)

2X2L: one of the oldest living Beatlemaniacs on this here planet we call Earth, state of Illinois, DeKalb sector.

Illinimania. So wonderful to wake up with a silly grin on my face this morning. (So wonderful to wake up, period)

Thanks, Illini. Go.

That feeling you get… talking to your buddies about the game… you feel yourself getting giddy and almost laughing… then realizing you’re fighting back tears because you’re so happy for them. Yeah… that’s what this team does to you…

Let me tell you about my week. My wife and I are in Bradenton and Anna Maria Island taking in the sun, sand, seafood, spring training baseball, and NCAA BB in sports bars. I have been wearing all the appropriate attire and kicking back.

Last football season, in the evening before the Indiana game, I decided to buy ONE ticket (my wife had commitments for the entire day). I got an East Balcony 2nd row seat right on the 50 yard line. Drove the 3 hours each way. The other Illini fans and I had a blast watching that John Paddock game. After I was finished explaining the significance to so many people and family, the only person that really got it was my daughter-in-law. For Christmas she orderd me an Illinois Footall t-shirt with Paddock "4" on the back. I wore it alll day yesterday. I wore it to a Pirates (vs Red Sox) game and a lady alum approached me. She was a serious sports fan (although a Red Sox fan). We had so much fun talking Illinois as a University and the Fighting Illini.

She then asked what I thought about the Duquesne game. This is the good part I have to share. Being from Pittsburgh, I told her that half my family went to Duquesne (the other half went to Pitt). I chose Illinois. I never talked any trash leading up to the game and in fact I expressed my excitement for them as fans.

We have a family "sports" text thread that includes 18 family members. Much to my surprise, a member of the Duquesne contingent started talking about the only reason the score/game was so lopsided was because it was "8 on 5". I just watched the thread unfold, then I let them have it. And it was very clever. Crickets. My son even texted me separately and said "give them a break". Regarding the Pitt contingency, a couple weeks ago, they started questioning how good the Illini really were. Just to be clear, they are not doing this as fun sports trash talking. They have always been jealous of my life decisions, accomplishments, and The Illini.

So, if I have not been clear yet, I'm having a great week!!

There was no call on this, they played on. It was behind the play, and I don't think any ref saw it and there was no review. I was there and missed it also, but my son saw the trip.

Just a lot of boos from the Illini fans.

we rarely get love in any sport .

the 1989 team got some , 2005 also .
but in general , it’s hard to feel any, 99% of the time
