If it hasn't been established yet, this is the moment in which Illinois is fully "back" again. A nationally relevant and major program. Top-3 seed. Sweet Sixteen program. The next extension Brad Underwood gets needs to keep him here for however long he wants to coach. Don't give him a reason to be like Lon or Bill.

While we're not quite there in football yet, the revival and acceleration of Illinois Athletics has been nothing short of prolific. Josh Whitman was the right man for the job, and our patience with this overall rebuild has been fully justified and rewarded. It's easier to talk about now, but we were at great risk of becoming a second-tier athletics school in major sports as programs like Iowa and Wisconsin and OSU found equivalent basketball success to go along with annual football success. I believe those years have been fully exorcised, and now the goal after this season is to build sustained success with solid recruiting pipelines nationally.

But that's looking too far ahead. Let's get a natty before we have to think about that!

I have some sympathy for the Duquesne fan. I know how powerful the reticular activating system can be. You see what you want to see and miss everything else. I've been there many times in my orange colored glasses.

The punkers became the punkees just a few seconds after the tip. Reality must have sunk in quickly for our single serving friend.

The lesson for the youth of America is this: your team can lose a game and you can quietly sulk in anonymity. Or, your team can lose a game and you get to become a punchline due to an overconfident post you made. Choose wisely.
Agree. Maybe I'm just feeling charitable in the glow of yesterday's win, but I think that Duquesne fan is getting a bit too much negativity here (not you Patty but overall). His or her post was not nasty or rude. Overconfident, surely - but so are many here at times.

It was kind of interesting on the pregame Candace Parker was prompted on how Duquense might be able to win and she gave and answer but it seemed really half hearted. Everyone at the desk looked like "yea that ain't going to happen." I think they all quietly expected Illinois to run them off the floor but nobody said it.
It was worse than that, she was asked a direct question about Illinois and then proceeded to talk about herself (in the context of the Duquesne coach retiring) for the next two minutes. Don't recall if this was pregame or halftime but she sure was full of herself.

I have to say I was very happy with how relatively uninvolved the refs were in this game, compared to our terrible B1G refs constant overinvolvement, calling ticky tack crap, especially at key moments. Makes the game WAY more fun when they stay out of the way.
It was an enjoyable game to watch, not perfect officiating but they let both teams get after it.

The ref was right there on the baseline.
it was blatant and intentional on the replay .

if they so wanted to send a message , the NCAA could penalize him a few games next year, if he’s still playing , correct ?

I mean , Kofi sold a few bobble heads & jerseys , one week before NIL took effect and they penalized him 3 games

Just want to make an appreciation observation. Having had the opportunity to go to the BTT, I was struck by how many family members of the players were in attendance. I know that our guys now make over-the-table money and all, but these are regular people making regular money who are traveling all over the country to support their kids. It’s part of why college hoops is so much better than NBA. We’ve had plenty of commentary on over-zealous moms and such on here… but let’s raise a glass to the dads, moms, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins that represent the orange and blue in the stands.

There was a point in the game (second half, I believe) when Hawkins came out of the game and was clearly agitated, big time. Brad was standing over him trying to calm him down, took a while. Anyone know what this was about?

This right here.
All game I kept anticipating whistles that never came.

What is it about BIG refs?

agreed, but they called a number of phantom fouls on our guys (Hawkins and DGL come to mind)

This is the first time I noticed the CBS big boy panel having good things to say about Illinois at halftime. Either Kenny or Clark said that Illinois could win the tournament. And the other said that TSJ was not one of the top ten college players, but one of the top three players. Amazing! Finally some love!

Maybe if the media would stop their nonsense and wake up, they’d objectively see he is one of the top 3 but many media members have agendas

If I had run into that guy at a neutral site bar, sure I’d agree…but the dude took the time to go to an opposing board, create an account, and then compare his team to the 13th place Big Ten team.

He reminded me of that Temple guy who posted on here for months about how Brunson was going to Temple and how they were not so far off from Villanova and Illinois.

Compare that to the cyclone guy who just posted a pretty well thought out post of “this will be a great game, I can see how you’ll win by 10 or we’ll win by 10”

Fellas….and ladies ….I'm hammered

Re-watching the game, and specifically watching the bench area, I noticed Tyler "hydrating" moreso than usual in the 2nd half... I would be too after a 1st half beatdown like that.
