This is the first time I noticed the CBS big boy panel having good things to say about Illinois at halftime. Either Kenny or Clark said that Illinois could win the tournament. And the other said that TSJ was not one of the top ten college players, but one of the top three players. Amazing! Finally some love!
Kenny and Clark were indeed showing love . Charles , not so much , and he pivoted to some other team , I forget who

There was a point in the game (second half, I believe) when Hawkins came out of the game and was clearly agitated, big time. Brad was standing over him trying to calm him down, took a while. Anyone know what this was about?
Per Werner & Piper, Hawkins was agitated re a call against him and was riding the ref. Brad yanked him & said not to do that up 30. W & P were chuckling while shaking their heads & said it was a pretty typical exchange between the two of them

Are they having a crowd meet at the airport for the players return again ????????

Sorry did not know where to ask or post!!

I have to say I was very happy with how relatively uninvolved the refs were in this game, compared to our terrible B1G refs constant overinvolvement, calling ticky tack crap, especially at key moments. Makes the game WAY more fun when they stay out of the way.
One hundred percent agree with you, and every official know this as well. Except that when they work a B10 game, they are explicitly told/evaluated/whatever to ref in way that keeps games close and there is, in every game, an agenda to the way games are called based on standings/expectations/whatever suits the league best in its eyes.

Just my opinion, and I will die on this hill, but I've watched enough league games the past forty years to know this is how the B10 product is manged. And it is a disservice to its programs and fans.

Penn State post game thread had double the posts currently this one has where we made the freakin' S16.

If you're gonna criticize the team heavily (I was one of them in that thread) keep that same energy when our guys deserve all the praise in the world.

I'm thinking there are a ton of folks who can't see the keyboard yet. Maybe a bit too much celebration.

I have also been critical, at times, but it is because everyone could see the potential this team has. This site allows us to vent frustrations - within reason - with what we see during games/postgame when they haven't lived up to expectations based on that potential.

Having said that, I am over the moon that BU and this group have finally made it to the second weekend! They have achieved a great deal this season, with hopefully much more to come! Couldn't be happier or prouder of the team!

Anybody else see those Duquesne band nerds jawing at TJ right before this pic was taken, and he gave them a "keep on talking" sign as he quietly walked away? That was when I knew I was going to be happy with our boys giving this no-name would-be Cinderella team a thrashing.
Uneducated band nerds - lot of people out there simply are lazy and go with the narrative they want to believe. So glad that band got to see their team get destroyed.

Can you really be considered a Cinderella if you don't make it past the second round, though?

Domask averaging over 8 assists in last 4 games, underrated passing ability**

**ability that I do not think was there this whole season, he's just really came on lately in that regard

There was a play somewhat early in the 2nd half where he absolutely banana-peeled a guy just past the half court line with a fake & spin and then flung it to Ty, but a foul was called on the floor before Ty could finish the play (which is probably why its not showing up in any of the highlights). Anyone have video of that? He just depantsed this guy.

To the previous poster who wondered if announcer said Illinois was "scared" before Duquesne game. I am here to say I am watching replay and the dunce, know-nothing, talking bobblehead actually said that. Yes, he did.

Have a nice day! Smiley thing inserted here.

All of us, rest up, carry on normal. Enjoy Sweet Sixteen. But I am an elitest.

He said the Illini fans were scared, didn’t he? Lots of Sweet 16 angst before yesterday.

For 19 long years — that’s an entire generation of time – Illini Nation has waited for a performance like this. A Big-Tournament Game-Two domination and demolition of a worthy opponent. Charging out of the gate like raging bulls in heat and never taking their foot off the gas pedal. Leaving their opponents dazed and confused and hearing the classic sounds of Led Zeppelin echoing in their heads. With blank stares and annoyed fussing in the opponent’s huddle. Wondering what had just happened to them and who was it that just did this to them.

Yes, it was a game such as Illini Nation hasn’t enjoyed since 2005 when the median home price in America was a mere $240,000 and not the $440,000 it is today.

Children have been born, gone to Grade School and High School, and are now in college since the Illini have looked this good at this point in the season.

The players had fun. No pressure or worries. They took the court ready and serious and focused... and nothing was going to stand in their way.

And now... finally... thankfully... the Illini will take the court in a Game Three and a chance at the Elite Eight. And if there is ever anything a Coach Underwood team should always be... it is (say it loud and proud, Illini Nation...) It is... ‘ELITE!’.

Great job, guys. You are one special group that we will always remember. And as you will soon scatter to the far reaches of the Globe in your future endeavors... take a moment to pause... breathe in... feel it... and relish where you are right now and where you have a chance to be in mere days.

And us too, Illini Nation. Smile and enjoy. We deserve this.

Just watched the game video again, enjoying it in all its glory. Paid close attention to the panel when at half-time, Kenny Johnson said, “As impressive lately as UConn or Gonzaga, Illinois is just as good. Shannon is on a roll…Shannon is a Top 3 guy with his ability to get to the rim, but now he can hit the three. His ability to get a basket is special.”
Charles Barkley said, “He’s a leader; he galvanizes everybody. His ability to get one when his team needs him to is special. Shannon has singlehandedly got this team winning. He has shown ‘you get on my back, and we’re going to go.’ He sets the example, and they are following him, and it’s a fun thing to watch.”

Pretty much every loss thread is huge and filled with "this is why we wont do anything in march" posts. Hope some of them dudes learned something.
