Everyone here knows I'm old and I remember the days of the Celtics dynasties but for individual talent , not titles or championships, the most talented basketball player to me was Pistol Pete Marovich in college at LSU
I remember the
Jefferson-Pilot SEC game of the week broadcasts and watching him go off for 50+
points almost every game
A wizard with the ball
JMHO
For you young ‘uns, imagine if Andre (El Mago) Curbelo was 4-inches taller and, oh by the way, could drop in 44 points per game (maybe 60 with a 3-pt line & shot clock) - That was Pistol Pete Maravich, college legend.

What really? 56% for Russell…Stupid Internet. I’ll take your word for it.

Yeah, no I actually think Kofi’s is pretty solid at 65% He’s already improved from S1 and we don’t know what his ceiling is just yet. He’s still raw and relatively new to the sport so who knows? I don’t think he’ll ever hit 80 percent. But 70 would be a good goal.
He was actually a little better season 1 at 68%. Down to 55% last year and back up 64% this year. That his best FT% was his Freshman year, is I think indicative that there is room for some improvement.

Nice post-game writeup on MGoBlog today basically about how Illinois has personnel superior to Michigan's across the board, how "Brad Underwood's team put on an offensive clinic that Phil Martelli and staff seemingly had no answer for", and basically no one among the commenters can understand how the Illini ever lose.

Lol. They were disparaging the program and BU endlessly in the pregame post comments. Now, their tails are tucked firmly between their legs as they slink back into their hovels and look forward to hosting the inferiority that they perceive MSU as. I'm betting they slip to 0.500 by my bedtime tomorrow evening.

I love this photo of Plummer on the header. It kinda looks like he's like a yard off the floor as he shoots.

For everyone who laments every big recruiting loss (I hate it, too!), let’s think about the ratings of players Howard has brought in compared to what we currently put on the court - and remember the above observation from another team’s insiders.

Recruiting the best team is much more nuanced than fetching a flock of 4- & 5-stars… a few doesn’t hurt, though!

I’d offer up Ralph Sampson as one of the most gifted college basketball players also Pru - there has NEVER been a 7 footer (7’4”!!!) that could do what he could do in terms of handling the ball in the open court. Everyone is going gaga over the ball handling and shooting skills of Chet Holmgren at Gonzaga, and he’s not capable of even washing Sampson’s socks. Pistol Pete was special tho!

Uh, yeah....I have Dirk Nowitzki on line 1 for you. Please hold.

Actually, a lot of the kvetching in the blog post and comment concerns how their guards are just too darn short and slow. Oh, and how they can't possibly replace Hunter Dickinson next year. Cry me a river.

To simplify it all, balance, eyes still, ball comes to rest, then speed of lift, distance of lift, angle of lift. All are important, but the most violated are the first three. The eyes are the biggest key....a moving target is so hard to hit.
Unless you are MJ. Then you just shut your eyes on the line and knock it down on National TV

I'm going to show that to my kiddos... His ability to get good looks is a good demonstration of -move constantly with a purpose- and you will find a look, and get vertical. Great pic.

Hope you are right, but he has long ways to go offensively before he is in the same league at B Cook.
No doubt. Eyeball wise, I like his energy and handles better at this point in their development. Cook definitely had the smoother, or at least more productive, jumper. Coleman's shown some similar slipperiness around the hoop when aggressive. I think CoHawk has better passing instincts. 🤷‍♂️ We'll see where his game's at in a year.

That was fun to listen to/watch. Our guards completely outplayed the MI backcourt. It always helps when you are nailing 3 pointers and have Kofi unstoppable inside.

Just looking at recruiting rankings, Michigan should run away with the Big Ten title. They have four McDonald's AAs. We have zero. We have three (barely) top 50 players. FWIW, I believe the most McDonald's AAs we've ever had is three (the 89 team with Anderson, Liberty, and Hamilton).

The thing is, in the case of Michigan, the whole is way less than the sum of the parts. And as you said, recruiting is more complicated than just getting the most highly-ranked players.
