Illinois 93, Michigan 85 Postgame

Satisfying victory. Kudos to Underwood for continuing to fade Da’Monte Williams.
If any coach believes fading players is cause for celebration....that will be cause for all of our disappointment.

CH and AC took minutes away from plummer and Damonte because they played well.... now that is cause for celebration.

Teams win...all minutes count.

I've thought about this. I made a mistake that either way we would be playing WI in the semi's. But personally I'll take the co-championship. Every quarterfinal game is going to be an absolute war, despite the 5-8 seeds having to play an extra game.

We cannot control WI/PU game ... so whatever happens, right?
Yea I guess it is really a tough situation. We really need Maryland to beat tOSU and then that is off the table

I'll be rooting like heck for Purdue on Tuesday, and want nothing more than to see Boilers win and Illinois win out and get a share of the Big Ten title, but just in case that doesn't happen, still will always love this team for....

winning at Iowa...that's five in a row vs. them
beating Tom Izzo twice
blowing out Wisconsin....that's four in a row over Badgers
going 2-0 vs. Michigan. That feels so good!
winning at Indiana

I'm sure I'm missing some more, but this team, for as inperfect as we all know it is, has achieved A TON. And overcome so many injuries and other nonsense. Thank you players and coaches, and let's get more this last week and the postseason

I know he was the hero at home against Purdue, but I’m chalking this one up as Belo’s best and most complete performance of the year. A couple turnovers, sure, but he was absolute money on the defensive end. Wonder why Plummer rode the pine in the 2nd half? He goes under a screen on Jones who buries an uncontested 3. Belo moved his feet and fought through screens at a Trent level today. Not to mention an incredible vertical contest at the rim against a bigger dude when scUM had a chance to get it within 2. The collective defensive effort of Trent and Belo will win this team games in March. Plummer showed flashes, but I guarantee you he won’t see the end of the game unless he defends at a higher level, no matter how hot he is.

I was stunned the refs didn't call a foul on that "vertical contest". We are talking about the Illini AT Michigan in a close contest down the stretch. Illinois usually doesn't get those no calls.......

So the question is, do we want a share (4 way) of a BIG regular season championship or an easier path to more q1 wins and really playing for March. If we end in a 4 way tie we are the 4 seed looking at Rutgers then Purdue. Probably controversial, but maybe we want Wisconsin to beat Purdue so we would stay away from Purdue until the final game (which is a meaningless game)?
If we end in a 4 way tie but we beat Wisconsin in the 1 game we played them why would be the 4 seed?

I agree with most of your post. But curbelo still had more turnovers than assist three assists to four turnovers. quite often on defense he was running all over the place trying to find someone to guard leaving another person wide-open! He's getting there, not there quite yet. I also miss his his 6 rebounds per game from last year. Literally the best rebounding guard in the league. I chalk it up to still being out of sync and position on defense. I have faith in him.
It's literally lose lose at this point in the season with Granderson and Plummer on the defensive side of the ball but I'd much rather have a plumber in for shooting and free throws at the end of games. Graberson has me totally confused at this point! Way to go Illini awesome "W"!

He’s going to do great things for us.
Like to see him pull up and hit the 15’ jumper. They are giving him that shot and covering Kofi. Would really force a defensive change or make him a 20 pt scorer.

I want to play Purdue. Third times a charm.

I enjoyed that. We put together a couple of decent halves for once. I was wondering why Plummer wasn't in at crunch time. It smelled of OSU, Plummer hot. Plummer invisible. But this time he was just on the bench. Am I missing something? Sure he's not the best defender but we are better with foot on the gas and not turtling for a win worried about stops. Sometimes offense wins games too. Anyone notice how Michigan stayed engaged? They decided to play the whole court. If Hawkins and Curbelo can stay in their lanes and do what they do best and let Trent, Plummer and Kofi score, we are better. Free throws boys... please!

Curbelo isn't running all over the place trying to find someone to guard it just looks that way because he's trying to play defense like Troy Polamalu going for crazy interceptions.
