Illinois 95, Iowa 85 Postgame

I think Moretti was great, let’s pump the brakes on what he means for this team.

We’re a week away from March. Moretti isn’t coming in and running point for major minutes. I think he can be a great secondary option if underwood is willing, but comparing him to curbelo, pre or post concussion, is laughable.
I think the consensus is that hopefully Brad will trust his bench more as a whole.

It’s not that rare- I think every Illini coach has done it at some point, the oddity is that it’s usually when your team is down 20/being steamrolled and it’s a Hail Mary move to get something to change

I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in a close game like that before
It happened in HS fairly often

I started reading the posts and got only through about 4 pages and don't feel like going through all 16 and reading everyone's post misspelling Moretti's first name, or rather, the diminutive form of his first name. It's Nicco not Nico. At least that is the way I see it. Maybe the diminutive is Nico but there are two "c" in his name so I assume it is Nicco. Does no one else see that? Would you like to have your name misspelled all the time? I wonder if we can get someone from the press to ask him or one of the insiders. It's as bad as when people spelled Giorgi's name with an "e".

The problems with fatigue are usually seen as coming up short on shots, mental errors and lazy fouls and I’ve seen a lot of that late In games.
When you have to carry weight on both ends of the court, such as Shannon and Hawkins, there is going to be fatigue. Plus we are into the 4th month of the season, and with the exception of two games, every game has been a battle.

I was disappointed in the behavior of Coach Underwood at the end of the first half of the Iowa game. His line shift in the second half overshadows this, but his conduct at the end of the first half shows one of his weaknesses as a coach, one that could bite him and the Illini in the future. He got into such a rage on the sideline that he could no longer coach the team, steaming up and down the sideline raging to himself and not coaching. Meanwhile, in the remaining second, Iowa steals a basket in a way that should never happen and that a coach focused and under control would not have allowed.
With all due respect, I completely disagree here. After the disaster vs PSU, I'm sure those practices weren't a walk in the park. The message was effort, effort and more effort, especially defensively. He didn't get that ...again. We let up 43 points in the first half with the same issues arising. The time of being the guy who relies on the seniors was LONG gone because the seniors were the main violators.

These are grown men, not sofa warriors. They can handle getting chewed out and they deserved each and every word. They came out halftime and were STILL a step behind. The fact that he had to do a full hockey line change is ridiculous given this team makeup. You could see that they entire staff was searching for answers to motivate. You saw BU and Chester were in the....what else can we do, point. I think BU even asked him that.

He pushed every button necessary and he had every right to be irate. I have some news for you....if this effort continues and they a 5 seed, the chances of not getting past the first game is real. If he has to break tables, so be it. If he needs to bench people for a full half, so be it. This team needs to wake up.

Going on a rant to his team is absolutely not out of line. If this were a roster of Freshmen and Sophomores, I'd be more apt to agree with you. He's dealing with 21 - 24 year old men here. If you don't like him getting irate, take your focus off of him and put 100% of it in his guys. They are in full control of how this season plays out. I said this in another post.... we're four games from win or go home in two separate events. There's no more time to allow this type of play. He needs to use everything in the arsenal if his seniors aren't going to do it on their own.
