Can't say enough about this group. How do you lose an AA and then destroy a decent team by 30? So many well fought plays and decisions in this one. And the way they play together is a thing of beauty. Shades of 2005 ball movement.

I hope the guys on the bench see what team ball is and don't get discouraged. DGL, AH, are guys that can play, but need some time before they step up. Love the culture. Hope they keep it rolling.
Next man up!!!!! LFG!!

It's all about shot selection ...
So right. I think I’m likely 90% in predicting whether a 3-pointer he takes will be made or not based on where taken from and his set up. Obviously affects all shooters, but really does so for CH.

I’m likely only 10% right on when he’ll make a block cuz he can come out of nowhere. Has really stepped it up on D. Never really looked uncomfortable guarding other teams 5 per se, but he just seems incredibly comfortable now and understands how to effectively guard his man while impacting team defense with his rotations.

Feel like there was a lot of prep work for Purdue baked into today's gameplan. Unfortunately for him, Dain will hardly see the floor unless Edey goes out
Interesting take on Dain mainly because I had the exact opposite thought that we wanted Dain with fresh legs to help with Purdue. I think he gets a shot. Possibly if we dig a hole with our top 7 options but I think he can get Edey in foul trouble.

Anyway, will be an interesting game to watch based on body of work by both teams.

Whatever is going with Shannon... the rest of the guys are clearly using this as a rallying energy for the team. Each of them are raising their individual game as I wanted to see them do.

Honestly, how could that game have gone any better if Shannon was on the floor. Sure, we love the guy’s game. But the other guys are shining right now all on their own. And there is still more to their game that they can bring out.

And our Coach isn’t too bad, either. He keeps talking about how the bond among this team is real... ‘We Are Fam-i-ly’ kind of thing. All My Brothers And Me...

And... praise God for the Transfer Portal!

As for the ‘playing time’ issue... it’s all about winning games now in college ball. Period. Can’t have concern for hurting someone’s feelings. If they don’t like it here they’re headed out to the Portal anyway so you can’t micromanage to see that every guy gets floor time. Especially when a floor group is clicking and on a roll.

Almost nobody stays four years any more. Even two is pushing it these days. Get guys who have game and are winners and ride them all the way. Or said another way... trust that Coach knows what he’s doing.

And as for Purdue... they won’t admit it but they have to be a bit more concerned for themselves now seeing what The Beloved did to the North Siders. And the rest of the Large Ten as well.

It reminded me of when Ayo was out and we steam-rolled Michigan at home. Something is clicking well for this team right now

I too was confused why Dan didn’t play much in the second half- obviously CoHawk was balling, but with his lingering knee issue - get him out of there and let Dain get the playing time- it didn’t make sense

The offensive rebound was an air ball that fell right to him. On the defensive end, he failed to block out at least a couple times, one of which led to an offensive rebound where Cohawk blocked the subsequent shot.

Like I said, I thought he played well overall, but if I had to guess why he didn’t see more minutes, I would say effort on defense and rebounding.
The reason for DD not seeing playing time is that he cannot play and would be taken to a position where he cannot add anything when the team is playing 5 out offense with CoHawk at the point. Unfortunately, though he would be valuable in defending Edey, you may not see him get much time there either. Unless Painter decides to go zone against the Illini, which would likely be worth at least some time and testing, BU will be trying to get Edey at least in the top half of the key guarding CoHawk. Think about it. If Hawk is not closely guarded there and continues his 50% shooting, it takes Edey out of the defense near the basket and plays right into Illini strengths. Of course, if this is obvious to us, Painter won't want to do that and will elect to try something else. The problem is, this team can score in numerous ways and you have to pick your poison.

Bottom line is it will be a chess match. I see us needing Harmon's perimeter defense when he plays against their elite shooting guards as critical. Ty is dependable there but they have two of them and a forward or two that can shoot. Purdue is #1 for a reason as they have a 25 and 12 to start with and many other scoring weapons. No one has been able to shut Edey down for an entire game. The question for me is how long can we keep their two guards from hitting shots that bring the crowd to life? If Smith or Loyer can hit a couple or more 3s in the first 3-5 minutes, it might be a long night.

This would be a riveting match-up if played on a neutral floor, but I will be shocked if we find a way to win at Mackey. Yet it would not be the first time something has happened on the hardwood in college basketball that surprised everyone.

I watched the DD assist on the fast break in slo-mo, and it was a look away pass. His eyes were on the left corner when he passed to the right. Pretty cool from 6'9" 270 lbs. On his playing time, my concern is less with DD, and more with QG, CH, and MD all playing 35 minutes. I just don't think that is sustainable, and if they don't get a break up 30 points late, when will they? Indy indicated that it was to send a message with this game, and he is usually right, so I get that. I just hope that DD sees how Harmon struggled earlier, but was ready when his time came. IMO, there will come a time that we will need Dain to step up, and I hope he is ready when it does.

Nobody calls fouls on Edey.

Harmon has been so much more than I expected. Really have to give Brad credit for the portal guys he brought in. He seems to have identified all the right guys this year.
Harmon was good in the WAC last year and went on a deep run in the NIT with wins over Colorado and Cincinnati. Utah Valley helped keep Seattle U from the WAC title.

Was low key giddy Illinois signed him. Kudos to BU for the low-major scout job. SFA is in the WAC now, I feel like they stay on BU’s radar a bit. A lot of new schools recently joined the WAC from lower conferences - it’s kind of under the radar but the quality has really picked up in the last few years.

Whoever it was that wanted Boo to be the 6th best player on the floor last night, sorry you didn't get your wish. Guess you'll have to settle for him being the worst player to see the floor last night analytically speaking! :-o

Pretty much whenever Boo was out there last night, it was him getting torched defensively by Marcus or settling for a tough shot on offense. Good stuff.

Nobody calls fouls on Edey.
Edey does get away with a lot. But to be fair, he also gets hacked a ton, ala Kofi.

I wish it weren’t so, but I believe the guys in stripes will be an outsized factor in the outcome. If they mostly let things go for both teams, I like our chances. If they blow a lot of air through their whistles, be prepared for the Dain & Amani show…

Dain didn’t get minutes, but one of our biggest offensive advantages right now is Coleman bringing their big man out of the paint and clearing the lane for other guys to get to the rim. That doesn’t happen when Dain is on the floor.
