Torvik: 22 to 17

Bart's model doesn't like us very much.
Combination of a lower preseason rating than most other systems, and a slow start. However, it's trending up:

According to Game Score, the Illini have had 6 A-level performances this season, all in the past 7 games. Two B-level games (Eastern Illinois, @Tennessee), two C-level games (Marquette, Oakland), and one F-level game (Valpo, which they trailed by 9 at the half but still won). Continue playing like they have the past 7 games, and pick up the defensive intensity against the high level teams (aside from Rutgers, that was dominance on both ends), and the sky's the limit.

a couple small notes I thought about while rewatching

-Amani had such good hustle. Gave you a few great rebounds and then sprinted down the court. Really good IQ defense too for a freshman. Knows exactly his role right now.
- this game was pretty much a national spotlight for Illinois. Without many other good games on, I bet a lot of eyes (and AP voters) were watching this one.

Great to see Keith get that notice
clint eastwood smoking GIF
. showered that place with 80/20 orange and blue. Togetherness is the main word I would use to sum up the performance

Just to give everyone who has never had to interact with a mizzou fan an idea of what us St. Louisans have to deal with. I’ve always had to sit on the mizzou side every time I’ve gone to the game. And I stayed for the whole game last year and took my lashing like a man. This year, the same friends were wanting to leave by halftime because they couldn’t take it. This after a mizzou grad tried to legitimately say that Columbia was a better college town that Champaign because Champaign was in the “middle of nowhere” but Columbia was somehow a part of a “metro area.”

This is just a taste of why this game means so much to St. Louis Illini. Mizzou fans could not be more hypocritical if they tried

The switch everything defense destroyed Mizous offense. Will be fun to see it against NW.

So glad my apprehension about the game was wrong. Nice to have a wire to wire bragging rites win and even nicer to see the team continue to improve every game.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, highest ceiling since the finals team. Might be an even better defense team than that one when everything is said and done. Very exciting season ahead.

Can't find much of anything to criticize. Played solid in every category. Energy level was fantastic, ball movement was great, rebounding, shooting, free throws, just a total beatdown. Mizzou was exposed at every turn, Illini overpowered them. Shannon is just a superstar, Guerrier has become a beast, Hawkins has played 2 solid games on BOTH ends of the floor, Ty is a blue-collar rebounding stud. If these BIG 3 show up every night they will be unstoppable. Now let's go after the Big teams!
