Look at Houston schedule, they could be vastly overrated. Best win is Xavier by 6 pointsTo keep it simple: You move up and down in KenPom based on your offensive and defensive efficiency in each game compared to your expected offensive and defensive efficiency in that particular game.
IE: Based on how good Missouri’s offense and defense is, X is the expected outcome of the game. We played better than X, hence our overall efficiency improves and we move up.
What went up the most in this game was our offensive efficiency from #30 to #20 (defensive efficiency moved up 1 spot).
One thing to keep in mind is that the rating system is not linear. Those teams in the 10-20 range all have a very similar efficiency rating. We moved up in efficiency by 1.3, which is great for a single game, but Houston, for example, who’s #1 in KenPom, is ahead of Arizona (#2) by more than 1.3. So this game jumped us 8 spots, but it would not have taken us from 1-2.
Houston, #1, is currently ahead of us in efficiency by +7. We’re +7 the 40th ranked team. So team 40, is closer to team 8, than team 8 is to team 1.
One positive takeaway from Missouri's performance: (Hopefully not offending anyone on this board but) Missouri's cheerleaders were very easy on the eyes.
It is simply points per 100 possessions adjusted for opponent. ppp*100 offense - ppp*100 defense, which he calls AdjEM. Teams are ranked by AdjEM.Admittedly, I don't understand how KenPom works. Was it the margin of victory that pushed us that high? A tier 2 win? Or yes to both? That's a huge jump after one game.
Gates' presser is worth a watch. He is very complimentary of our team and the staff.
Is it finally safe to utter TSJ’s name in the same breath as all time Illini greats, without being shouted down?
Tell me you don’t know basketball without telling me you don’t know basketball. This post is hilarious Did you even watch the game?1-17 from 3 in first half will make all teams looks good defensively.
Could say the same about Quincy and Coleman. As long as it averages out.Just think what the final would have been if Marcus and Luke just shoot 35% on open 3s last night…..
I was actually more impressed by Harmon's reaction (as a bench player).
For both of you!do one of Sencire do one of Sencire
Margin/efficiency is a big part. But also that we are at the point where preseason metrics get de-emphasized by his model and we have performed better than the preseason predictions.Admittedly, I don't understand how KenPom works. Was it the margin of victory that pushed us that high? A tier 2 win? Or yes to both? That's a huge jump after one game.
Was at the game, and Armani was bouncing around and happy, before and after the game. Kid is going to score ALOT of points for us and is absolutely going to put some bruises on a lot of opposing players. Absolutely goes full throttle on rebounds and is alway hustling down court.
I was never sold on Ty at PG but I feel more comfortable after tonight.
Talk about pick your poison. Clog the lane on TSJs drive and QG is going to abuse you from the corner. Sprinkle in some MD man handling guards and CH who can do just about everything and this is brewing up to be a special year
CH hates Mizzou as much as the rest of us and it showed haha.
Who is jumping higher in that photo, Shannon or Sencire?

Goes well with Huggies wipes.
Exactly my comments to the boys in the hotel this morning. We put up 110, easily if we hit 33% of our open 3s. Even though we missed open shots, they were good shots, and I trust those same players every time with that shot.Just think what the final would have been if Marcus and Luke just shoot 35% on open 3s last night…..
Don't worry about Edey - he will get his no matter what. Defend the 3 and Purdue is vulnerable.Thank you Fighting Illini for the great pre-Christmas gift we all got last night. We hoped for it. We wanted it. We dropped hints for it. We needed it. It’s just the ‘right size’. You wrapped it nicely. You delivered it! And we loved it.
Shannon is just a flat-out joy to watch. An offense weapon from anywhere on the floor. Any chance he can stay here forever?
And from the whole team... Ball Movement! Rebounding! Energy! Hawkins hitting sweet Threes. QG-Man looking great.
So, thanks again. Uh, just one more thing. We’d like another gift come ‘round March time. As much as we like what you gave us yesterday... what we want in a few months would be even bigger and better and in an even nicer box. So, how about it? And you guys will want that too!
Get used to having success, Illini Nation. That’s so much sweeter than the alternative.
Question for the future: How do the Illini defend that Big Dude from Purdue when the day arrives? Everything with that guy is a size miss-match.
And as for the quote about the Illini being a Final Four team? That’s nice, but what I want is for the Illini to be a FINAL ONE TEAM. We've already done the 'Four' thing the last time around.

It‘s not an insult. What isn’t he doing at an elite level? A blur in the open court, a menace on defense, finishes in the paint, hits his 3’s, rebounds, finds teammates, sets a great example of what it takes to be great at this level…
Enjoy it, folks.
