Field of 68 guys just said they think tonight was basically a fluke & aren’t bought in we are the second best team in the B1G. Referenced last years team & how we beat Texas/UCLA flukey… said Coleman was really bad tonight…. Puke.
😂😂😂 So in the preview podcast, they said FAU is one of the 3-5 best teams in college basketball. We then beat that team by 9 on a neutral court. Yet they don’t believe we’re one of the top few teams in our league?

How do these guys have a platform?

“Need more looks for Goode”. - Huh? You give the ball to your hot hands until proven otherwise. Domask and TSJ were unstoppable.
There will be a game(s) where Goode will take over.
They couldn't double TSJ or Domask because we had guys on the 3 pt line like Goode that had to be guarded.

Goode, Harmon, etc. will have bigger scoring games when/if teams try to double TSJ or Domask

Let them talk their talk ... We stay focused on ourselves and our goals ... One game at a time ...

Come the end of the year ... Let's see what they've got to say ...

Agreed. Just thought it was funny someone was complaining tonight that Goode did not get enough looks.

They were literally in the building, watching the game live ... and after that milestone win - they still don't know anything about our team. Listening to them, you'd think the Illini only just beat an unranked Kansas State and might be lucky to finish in the top 5 of the B1G.

Unfortunately the way the wheels kind of came of after that stretch is on a lot of people's minds. Beautiful thing is we now have a chance to prove them wrong and that this is a very different group.

Yea I remember last year how high they got on the Illini after those wins. They definitely are feeling burned. They know very little about this team regardless which is pretty disappointing for covering a 4 team event of marquee matchups. Sleeper media on the other hand is jumping on the train!

FAU was definitely not at their ceiling. Goldin played only ~20 min (and still killed it during those minutes) and they were missing one of their main guards (Nick Boyd, averages 10ppg). They're a damn good team and will only be better come March. That said, doesn't take anything away from that W. They played really well, but our guys just played better.
Goldin averages 22 mins.

I can't wait to see our man TSjr. Lock down DaltonKnecht of Tennessee. He will see what a NBA 2 way guard can do. Best defender who can score 20 in a Illini uniform in many years. TSjr.!!
This will be a true test for TSJ, I agree. Knecht is a legitimate pro, he will be a top 14 pick. It’s time for TSJ to show the world who he is and what a 2 way guard looks like

Harmon quietly had a very good game offensively and could have been better if he made the put back before the half.

His spot up jumper looks very good and I think having him and Goode on the floor with Shannon and Domask with your choice of Coleman/Quincy will end up being the best lineup they can put out offensively.

Really impressive how much FAU fought. When TSJ hit the deep 3 to put us up by 10 late in the game a few of their players dropped their heads in frustration, but they still played hard.

It's a testament to their coach and players and also a testament to ours as well because we just kept throwing punches back.

Btw, our opening 2nd half defense has been a thing of wonder!! We went on at least a 14-0 run early 2nd half and didn't look back after that. Have done that multiple games this year

Ok, skimming through the stats, they beat us on the boards and had 23 assists on 31 buckets. We only had 10 assists on 36 buckets. Turnovers a wash. Both teams with 18 free throws. They had 7 steals, we had 4.

So, since I didn't see it, how did we win, lol?
They beat us on offensive rebounds (defensive ahead 21-16) but the damn ball kept going in the basket eliminating any chance at an offensive rebound. That is probably a problem that will be solved by next game.

I believe when Domask came here he was willing to do whatever they needed him to do to be part of this team. He probably figured TSJ and COHAWK would be the primary scorers with a good helping of Dain on the side. I imagine he didn't want to step on anyone's toes by trying to do too much. As it turns out with Hawkins struggling on offense we need him to be more aggressive and assert himself getting more shots and he has. Now the whole team knows what he is capable of while still playing within himself. He also took care of the bulk of the ball handling tonight. It now looks like we have that one two punch we needed with plenty of others able to contribute when needed.

Wondered if he purposely stepped back with the weaker opponents to let some people get experience.

So, yes, excellent shot by CH here. But, no, he shouldn't be shooting all these other 3s where he is only partially open. He must eliminate most of those.
100% agree- I think this is a key for us this season- is CH willing to reign in his 3point shooting to help the team? He needs to take them when it’s in rhythm catch and shoot that the team has rotated the ball to get him the look- he hurts the team if he doesn’t take that. Any other three, off the dribble, early in the clock, etc he just needs to eliminate those. The issue is he’s trying to show he’s a good shooter for the NBA, but I’d much rather see him draw the defense and show he can drive and finish or set up a teammate - he’s really good driving to the basket when the other 5 has closed out on him- that is a winning play- him taking a contested three is not

CH is obviously critical for us to win this year, him being willing to accept his role will be the key

I'll put my hand up as one of the biggest skeptics on this board regarding this team prior to this season. I'm ecstatic to have been proven wrong about how good this group can possibly be. I'm not surprised that Shannon turned in such a performance on this stage, but I could have never imagined that Marcus Domask could perform like this against such a good FAU team. Over the moon about this win.

As far as nitpicking what could improve, it's pretty hard to do that after a 9 point win over essentially a top 10 team. Since plenty are playing that game, I'll give it a try. What jumps out in the stat line to me are 10 assists and 14 turnovers. As the season advances, I'd love to see those numbers improve, which to me would help ensure that we can compete with any team.
