How can it take the NCAA this long to rule on Thorne and Abrams or are we in the appeal process?

It's sad but I woke up wondering why we haven't found anything out. The thought crossed my mind that one has already been decided. The longer it takes for Thorne, the better I feel. The longer it takes for Tracy, the more anxious I get. He has to be a shoe in...

If Tracy doesn't get another year, I may lose all faith in humanity.

I should have known getting optimistic for some rulings this week would just leave me with egg on my face...

They haven't even finished with all of the cases for 5th year guys, so it was unlikely that we were going to get the rulings for our two 6th year cases. Probably not the news people want to hear, but we might not even find out for a few more weeks. Grant Gibbs didn't have his 6th year approved until July.

Most of the 6th year eligibility cases have been decided by late April (Eschmeyer 4/8, Settles, 3/12, Mbakwe 4/16, Josh Henderson 4/16, Chris Fouch 4/26). So Illinois should hear very soon. There is no rule that says that 6th year cases are decided after all 5th year cases have been decided first. In fact, Chris Boucher (Oregon) has already been granted a 6th year (March 17) this year. Much has to do with the timing of application/petition.

The reason that the Gibbs decision was delayed a bit was that he was an unusual case and Greighton did not apply on time. Actually, Creighton did not think that Gibbs was eligible to even apply for a 6th year. It was only after Creighton hired a law firm to investigate the case and advise them, that they decided to apply, but that decision came very late. It was actually a pretty short turnaround considering the time that Creighton applied.

Another thing to consider is that the NCAA does not make public announcements on players' eligibility cases. The timing of announcement is up to the player and school, once the NCAA has notified them.

That makes sense, I forgot about all that mess. I feel like Gibbs had a worse chance of getting a waiver approved than Thorne since he would have had to sit out anyway in 2010-11 even if he wasn't injured.

As for the 6th year stuff, I'm sure there isn't a rule about those getting handled last, it just seems like 6th year cases generally take longer than the 5th year ones. It could be any day, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took another month or so.

Just a clarification again, but the NCAA does not make public announcements on players' edibility. It is up to the school/player to make a public announcement if they wish. They control the timing of it, once the NCAA has made their ruling.

It wouldn't surprise me if UI had already heard about Tracy already and are just waiting for the right time to announce, possibly also announcing the decision on Thorne. Chris Boucher (Oregon) has already been granted a 6th year (March 17) this year and given that Tracy's condition has been known for a while, it may very well be that UI knows about Tracy already.

Despite the source that it comes from, I thought that this article did a fairly decent analytical analysis of where Big Ten programs have been during a five year stretch. It hurts to see the beloved so far down the list, but here's to hoping to change that during this upcoming season.

Interesting, at 35 points, Illinois is a step up from Rutgers and Penn State, in a group towards the bottom with Northwestern 32, Nebraska 31, and Minnesota 30. Wish it were otherwise, but seems about right.

I wonder what the numbers would look like for a 10 year period. Maybe flip flop with Iowa but still would be bottom half of B1G.

So is there currently a waiver being sought for Kipper to be available at the beginning of the season or will he have to wait until late December to be available?

Yes. Pretty much everyone you can think of that may be on our roster is applying for a waiver :thumb:

I think Kipper's waiver prospects are worse than Big Mike's sixth year chances.
