Well ideally we’d have a younger up and coming oc who also is an ace recruiter. An old nfl guy would most likely give us a technically competent offense and play calling but do we want more out of this hire? I think we already have a lot of NFL experience on the coaching so adding another doesn’t do much for us there.

+1

Why do people come to these boards and say “I heard this! But I’m not going to tell you!”

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Agree wholeheartedly. I'll just have to live with the fact that I'm not an insider. Damn.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd be fine with that. Not blown away or overly excited, but still fine.

I'm with you on that, I still hope, like others have said, that we can snag a young go getter that has some recruiting prowess.

If they hire someone like Childress, then they absolutely need the other two hires to be bona fide recruiters.

Yeah, I'm right with you. But you can do a lot worse than Childress. His recruiting probably isn't great, but he is from the Chicago area, so you never know. Really, outside of Locksley, have we ever had a great recruiting OC? He seems very well respected, and I'd trust him to call an offense and hopefully develop some players. Just have a bad feeling it's going to be someone that will have us wishing it was Childress.

Agreed. Completely hypothetical: If it's Childress - OC, with Van Malone and Aaron Moorehead as the other assistants, would anyone complain?

I'm not very worried, but if you follow Jeremy's tweets it sounds like his pool is primarily NFL guys hoping to get a spot on a new NFL HC's staff.

Super optimistic me says: Lovie is merely ironing out details for an announcement the weekend or next week

Why the heck would Childress retire from the NFL to work at Illinois?? Also, given the length of time this search has taken and the names now being rumored, it really makes you wonder whether Lovie had someone lined up when he fired McGee (or whether that person bailed out). This is not going the way I expected. :tsk:

We DO need better, energetic recruiters who can close. Speaking of which, does it concern anyone else that in two recruiting cycles our 5-time Pro-Bowl linebackers coach hasn't yet landed a single prominent LB?:noidea:

Delshawn Phillips was a good pickup last season. Khalan Tolson was a solid pickup this season...He had some big offers. He also helped Illinois land Bennett Williams.

Childress was just on the radio in Chicago and it sure didn't sound like he had anything lined up or cooking anywhere.

Yea if anything it sounded like he’d be okay with a move to Nagy’s new staff.

Swami tweeted out something similar last night so not sure if these two ppl are connected or not

To be fair, he's also pretty clearly said that he has no idea who they are looking at and that Lovie has kept the search very close to the chest. It's all him guessing.

Absolutely! I think we all know about as much as we want to convince ourselves haha

Again, I am hoping Lovie surprises us all and it's not someone any of us expect...hopefully in a good way

My OC wish list in order of importance:
1. Great X & Os guy
2. Motivator
3. Read Option Offense
4. Great Recruiter

That's not asking to much right.........

I'm 100% sure it's Josh McDaniels. Have to wait for the super bowl before we can announce.

How many of you thought that was serious?

Yes, people will always complain about something.
