only way his offense works is if he has a strong OL.

he doesn't know how to utilize the talent he has or how to develop a QB.

I got one of my degrees from NCSU and he was god awful as the OC, no way I want him at Illinois

Agreed. I don't think he's shown anything that makes him an OC worth considering. He hit the jackpot professionally, climbing a few places recently and was a big hire for LSU, but it just has not worked out. I'll pass, thanks.

Van Malone would be a real good add as a DBs coach. Same with Matt Canada as OC.

So what are the 3 spots we are going to fill? OC for sure. But then what? I like the flexibility but what is our need/direction we should take?

For the other two I would guess quarterback coach and either a db coach since you have corners safeties and even nickels to coach or a lb coach to free up Nickerson. Man, if only Lovie knew someone that played both lb and safety at a high level that he could help with both! :D just joking on the last part of course. Don't see him as a coach.

I may be reading your reply wrong, but IlliniGuy is referring to a certain HOF MLB for the Bears that played strong safety at New Mexico (I believe) #54

Marcus Arroyo?
Supposedly staying on with Cristobal at Oregon but maybe wouldn't mind moving up to a coordinator position? QB coach for the Bucs in 2014.

Because of Tedford's illness in 2014, he was the play caller in 2014 for the Bucs. That didn't work out real well.

At this point, I'd be happy with either Canada, Longo, or Bajakian - in that order.

Just remember that the NFLs Black Monday is in 3 days...going to be A LOT of coaches looking for work.

The caption below caught my eye, along with the amount of underclassmen Tennessee was forced to play.

“Bajakian uses a pro-style read option offense, which would be best suited for a dual-threat quarterback.”

Nobody can be as bad as McGee these past two years.

Hmmm, forerunner? For both Lovie's preferred style and prior relationship? Not to mention the style of qbs we have.

If Tampa’s staff is done after this week, would be nice to see interest in Monken. Hell, bring him and Bajakian for offense and throw in Patterson for St. Louis and call it a day. I can dream right?

Monken would be terrific. I wanted him as head coach before Lovie became a possibility.

Todd Monken, Knox College class of 1978. Go Siwash! Nothing like a liberal arts education to prepare someone for D1 football coaching.

I'm really wishing people hadn't run off all the insiders (fake or real.) Rumors and wild guesses always made these threads so much more interesting! Doesnt anyone on here have any friend's babysitter's uncle who heard from a rock solid source that cant be named who the next OC is???

I did hear that Mike Martz would be interested if Lovie reached out.
