From what I've heard, that's not the case, though I can see why you think that because on the surface it looks that way.

It is only a feeling as I know no one in system Rhit. It is one of the reasons I come here and to the other sites as some guys do, whether they are right or wrong. Strange things can flip kids so no one is 100%.

When I read that my thought was this kid still wants to come. So it is not over but we have a shelf live of how long before he moves on.

Mostly the recruits... They are about to commit to playing Power5 football at a top university and suddenly have to explain to family and friends that the delay is due to their grades not being up to par.

Clear communication between staff and recruits should avoid these situations (if grades really are the cause in these two situations).

It happens at other schools, too. The Wisconsin boards are in total meltdown today over a 4* recruit being ruled ineligible.

Hard to blame them. Also, that shows how it's not as easy as "the coaches should just know if they'll get in before allowing a commit." This kid signed an LOI and was deemed not-admitted by UW's Chancellor THIS WEEK (2-3 weeks before fall camp at most schools!). That's just ridiculous and I feel bad for the kid.

Agreed.

The thing I don't really understand or I should say doesn't make sense to me, is how would having your whole football roster of borderline academic kids even impact a universities ratings? I mean we are talking 100 student athletes of which only 85 are on scholarship, out of thousands of students.

If you have a successful football/basketball programs, the influx of cash flow to the university and name recognition alone would offset this, imo. Can someone explain the administrators concern over allowing these types of student athletes admission?

For the record I completely agree with you that these kids are essentially employees for the university bringing in cash and notoriety on the field. I think to try a couple of points:

Schools have to maintain a certain APR for their programs/athletic departments by NCAA rules. If they admit too many of these questionable students, its going to negatively affect that score, which leads to possible sanctions or bad press. Now I'm guessing this isn't too strict when you consider what some schools that clearly do not get in trouble for this. I have a friend who ran track at ND who said that a lot of times other athletic teams try to have higher scores in an effort to beef up the entire program.

Politics-wise, I think there is a lot of power struggles between athletics and the overall school in terms of who runs the University. Along those lines, a lot of administrators could have personal agenda's or this idea that the student athlete should be just as good as any other student. I think of this as the doorman at an apartment building who won't open the door for you to visit a friend because you're friend didn't come down to the lobby, check you in, etc. There are some that are so hell-bent on feeling important and following the rules in the most strict way, even if it isn't practical for the purpose.

Thank you. Also, after reading my post you replied to, I want to apologize for the grammar/typos. All I can say is, how did I make it through college?

As my high school gym teacher said, "C's and D's get degrees"

I counted on it. As I tell kids, they only ask your GPA at your first job. Lucky for me, UIUC was on a five point scale when I was there. I may have not referenced that later on. :)

Not sure where to put this, but it seems not only Illinois that has these issues.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf...-denied-admission-by-wisconsin-171948631.html

(Already covered in this thread, but...) I don't think any Illini fans argue that we're the only one with high academic standards holding us back. It's just irritating that the NCAA has a minimum and schools don't use the same minimums. It gives some schools an advantage because they're less competitive in the classroom, which seems to be against the whole student-athlete thing.

Not going to get into a debate on this here, but here is my take on paying the kids play while attending here. First aside from a substantialy larger stipend the kids would no longer be amature's. That means they should be free to sign the following year with anyone willing to pay for play. My biggest issue is how many kids in this country would crawl over broken glass to get a 4 year schollie to a school like Illinois. What is tuition this year near 30 grand, right? $120 grand or more please, guys in minors what to they get paid these days. I am talking about the 22nd round senior 3rd baseman. It is there that or give up there dream
My dad would have had to put me and my younger sister to work in a coal mine to pay for my older brother, well anyone that would have taken my sorry azz anyways:eek:. It really fries my banana's :mad:to think well it not a big thing give him some money, and that will turn into a bidding war we conferences pressing the NCAA to raise the limit for the hs kid.
I agree the kids deserve a much larger stipend to cover food, clothes and other norm living expenses that those less fortunate not playing sports can pick up if they can land a part time job, because of the time commitment .

I loved Jackson tape. I have been meaning to run a list of the kids I really like including the highly imo underrated guys.
I mentioned Azunna well Kenyon Jackson cut from the same mold (??? 6 187 Azunna and 6 290-295 Jackson) hell ya.
Out of Ar 3tech/nt (imo nt)
Vvg-ex power, st/ vvg sp, qu, burst, feet, low get and fast get off that he normally keeps low. Gets the shoulder of the olineman defeating them especially when in a double team against. VV aggressive, non stop motor, nasty, vv big hitter, should I go on. In except for things like beating a double team thou Azunna did it wants in the box they read very much alike. He might remind you off a guy draft to two years ago. Know I am not saying he I all that but he looks good folks.
He rated a near 4 star from me and I may change that but I am being waring of buyer. 3* 5.75 rating the same I gave to Mikey when I compared him to a pro.
I will see if I can get the time to do the list sometime this week.

I am amazed that the admissions thing continues to reappear as an excuse here. I can without question say that the UI OAR is as lenient as nearly everyone in the B1G. There is a group at the top that will manage to admit just about anyone and Illinois isn't that bad, but Jesus H, blaming admissions is an urban legend akin to Rennie dunking on Shaq. It's just not frigging true....trust me, I know!
