I think the bigger issues was the assistant coaches lack of speaking/availability compared to other years.
That's really odd, I wonder why they did that. Seems contrary to the whole 'Illini Family' thing they are trying to promote.

This was the other thing I had heard that I forgot to mention. Was told that they also wanted to move a high school game to Saturday (only during the week of our Friday game) so he could show up for the high school game (for evaluating). All these things seem a little odd and show some disconnect from Beckman.I know quite a few coaches were upset about Illinois having a game on Friday and let Beckman know about it in front of everyone. I was told it was awkward and some people may have left the room.
Agreed my buddy even said if this was more proven/respected coach all these would be non issues and would not be mentioned. Winning obviously fixes these minor issues.Call me crazy but those seem like really, really silly things for coaches to get their socks in a bunch about.
Bunch of jealous wannabes.
IMO it makes the high school coaches look more arrogant than anything.
Yea I said the same. That was probably the most minor issue, it wasmore about the tradition than beer. It was probably some post clinic tradition or something (just speculating). I probably should have asked more detail about it before. I made it sound like everyone was marching to the clinic with coolers full of beer, when that was not the case.I have been to the coaching clinic that Illinois high school coaches association hosts in the past and I don't recall seeing coolers of beer. I might be wrong, but there are plenty of establishments to go drink beer at if that is the goal.
I can understand being a little upset if the Illini coaches didn't participate like in years past, but to get upset about not having beer in coolers seems a little off to me.
I just noticed a post from earlier....
I know for sure there were some current and former high school head coaches upset about the Illini having a Friday night game. The Illini's Friday night game is week 2 of the Illinois high school schedule.
I actually think it a smart recruiting move if he could coordinate with high schools in terms of recruitment. Weeks 1 and 2 are usually the best match ups because most teams are playing non conference schedules. This could produce more offers for kids that may not properly get evaluated due to limited game film the prior year. The entire staff can go out and scout Saturday and return for Sunday meetings. This could provide two eval weeks versus just being able to go out during the bye week. Like most this with this Head Coach, presentation was the issue.
It is one game against Kent St. Do you think the Michigan high school coaches complained to Dantonio that he had a Friday night game last year the opening weekend and that they play at WMU this year opening weekend? Baylor, SMU, Washington all play on Friday night this year too. It's just another chance for coaches to complain about Beckman. Were all of these coaches planning to come to the 11am game on Saturday?

I understand your point, but I would guess 90% of Illinois high school football games are played on Friday nights. I know there are some Saturday games, but they are limited. If the Illini truly wanted a recruiting "advantage", they would play their game on a Thursday night. IMO.
There really isn't a perfect solution but I really don't think this is a bad move. I know I am very hard on the current staff when it comes to recruiting therefore I feel I should compliment a move that I feel is beneficial. I am sure this will be strategic in which the games they want to see will be on Saturday. The hardest part for some coaches is to accept the fact that they may not have the top level talent they think they do. If they land one kid with this move it's a win in my opinion.
Agreed. I don't care when the games are played. If I can attend I will go. I don't have a problem with the schedule and look forward to the soldier field game as well.
The high school coaches I know are very protective of Friday night lights and the tradition surrounding it. I can see both sides of the argument. Illinois needs to do what they feel is best for their program, period. If that ruffles some feathers, then so be it.
