Carney at DE
Harris at DT

Would be huge additions to the DL where we are going to need major help after this year. Would still like to add another DE as well.

Green paired with Smalling would be great 1-2 targets for this class.Still need to add another I would hope to the WR core. I think we have 3 WRs graduating after this year.

Owen Carney posted on Twitter this week a photo of Corey Liuget and him something along the lines of The Past and The Future and the Illinois logo all over it

Well you have to at least give the staff credit for getting in the top 4 or 6. This is another very good athlete that Illinois is in the final 6.

Agreed. Hopefully some of these guys end up pulling the trigger and landing in O&B. Lovie is in the conversation for a lot of 4-stars for 2017 at this point.

For comparison purposes... I believe the current roster contains 4 4* players (Lunt, Vaughn, Meggison, Day).

I'm with you guys. Getting in the conversation for several 2017 4* players is an accomplishment. Now, let's get some of them to commit.

Ohio State just got three stud recruits to commit. We need some of these guys that have been involved to pull the trigger!

I know its a tough ask not having seen any game action with Lovie at the helm - but hopefully we can keep reeling in quality recruits.

While we'd all love to get some new commits, comparing our program to OSU's is just wrong.

According to ESPN, none of the players are from Illinois. So at least tOSU hasn't poached our guys!

The players Ohio State targets are several classes different than those we target. Yes, there are exceptions. Like Illinois kids, for example. In the recent past, we didn't even merit a sniff from the likes of Tommy Schutt and Garret Goebel. Nowadays, maybe we would. Or at least will. Anywho, theoretically, the gap will close. But it will still be Grand Canyon-esque.

I am starting to get a little antsy for recruits. I know we may have to do a slow build. But I am seeing a lot of commits to schools I eventually hope to be at least level with on recruiting. (Mizzou, MSU)

Why does anyone want to want to play for Arkansas with who they have as coach.

That is my Illini colored viewpoint. I realize we have a long way to go to catch MSU. That is just my eventual goal.

Going to take some time. Lovie's been here since March. MSU's program is a machine.

I'm starting to experience a similar feeling. I'm not expecting 4-5* recruits this recruiting cycle, but I was hoping to have some more in terms of quantity. Steve over at Illiniboard had some tweets today about how IF we got all the guys we really wanted (read: reasonable) we'd have the 50th ranked class in 2017. That's the best case scenario for this class.
I get that just Lovie's name isn't enough to start recruiting at an elite level but I'd hoped we'd see some more enthusiasm for the future of the program.

Doesn't MSU recruit Illinois fairly heavily? Between us and Northwestern, it's not like they would have much competition. That'll undoubtedly change moving forward. It'll be interesting to see if they can sustain their program's prestige with a competitive Illinois competing for Illinois kids. MSU isn't even the biggest name in Michigan. A steady decline may await the Spartans...no complaints here! :D

Micah was quoted saying he's making his decision soon, not sure if it's before or after the Illini BBQ and isn't sure if he's going yet.

Sounds like he's committing to Duke with that info.

Michigan State has as good of a reputation amongst Illinois kids as anyone. It is on the list of "coolest" offers that they hope for.
