I don't want to pilfer premium content, but Werner's Twitter teased a premium article that the title states a 2017 top 100 recruit will be in town this weekend. I assume he's talking about football and not Kris Wilkes.

Any idea who he may be talking about? I would have to think it is Jeff Thomas as I do not know of any other 2017 top 100 targets that we are in on.

Full house, showcase game and a good showing should help a ton with gaining interest. If this breaks the right way, Illini football will explode!

How much do you game plan for recruits? Try to throw deep to impress the wr recruit?

It makes a lot of sense.

He won't do much better than us and we won't do much better than him.

Would he be eligible for a 6th year because of his injury last year or can he not get it due to the voluntary redshirt his first year? I was never clear on that rule.

He'll do a lot better than us realistically. A 5th year transfer QB that is a top 10-15 QB in he country (Lindys has him 8th best) will be as hard to get as any 5 star recruit. His problem is playing behind a potential Heisman candidate.

Everett Golson is probably the closest example. He ended up at Florida State with offers from everyone (visited Georgia and Florida). But remember Zaire taking his spot was the main reason Golson transferred to begin with.

At least we have a potential equalizer in Lovie though.

Thomas has Ohio State, Alabama, FSU, and Michigan offers and still wants to take the time to visit. From where we were a year ago thats amazing really.

A lot of big 2018 names. Would be awesome to get Verdis Brown from that class.

Maybe. The question is how many places can he come in and win the job right away.

He may be a better QB than, say Wes Lunt (reasonable people can disagree on that, but I'm sure he was ranked higher on that list you referenced), but he would never waltz in and be handed the job ahead of him.

We can hand him the job next year. The number of Power Five schools that can do that will be more than one, but it won't be like 30.

Is he a possibility? I saw Werner said we have made up ground, but Illinois was not one of his mentioned top five from earlier. I agree that it is a positive development to see the second visit, just not sure how serious

Wouldn't be visiting if there wasn't some interest there.

Zero inside info. That said, as decision time gets closer, maybe, just maybe, the home state U is growing on the kid. We have a great staff, we're a lot closer to home (family & friends will be able to attend his games much more often) and Illini football could explode. He could play a big part in that. Some kids would find that very appealing. Again, zero inside info.

Do we need to start a Michigan recruit decommitting thread? Their 2018 class is now down to 1 committed player after today.

"U-M today lost its third commitment from the class in the past three weeks, when Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar linebacker Antwuan Johnson decommitted. He announced on Twitter: "I look forward to getting back into this recruiting process."

UM also lost a 2017 recruit: TE Carter Dunaway -- Would love to see Illinois get involved in his recruitment, could use a TE.

Update: Looks more like UM walked away from him, still want Illinois to reach out.

Jeremy Werner said up to 65 recruits could be at the game tomorrow!

Landing a combo of Trout and Brown for the middle of the Dline would be Big10 championship caliber recruiting. There is still a ways to go before these type of recruits actually commit but it is definitely a good time to be an Illini football fan.
