Carney plans to enroll early at Illinois in January.

"Illinois is getting someone who is going to go hard and play non-stop," Carney said. "I'm straight from the 305, Dade County, where the majority of the best football players in America come from. I'm going to come off the edge and make plays."

"I'll also have the chance to play early and make an immediate impact on the program; I'll be getting my shot to be a starter.

"It wasn't really what they were selling to me as far as playing early; that really wasn't what sold me on them. I've just had nothing but loyalty and honesty from them from the first time I picked up the phone to talk to coach Ward. I just love the way they came at me."
