Love seeing that kind of excitement about our coach and program from a really really good player - even if we might be a longshot. :thumb:

We are not a longshot. I would put us as the favorite. By no means the odds-on favorite, but I think we have a better shot than anyone. Top competition is probably Arkansas

Devin O'Rourke and Greg Newsome both got crystal balls to Northwestern today.

Greg Newsome just visited Illinois today. But I don't like our chances there

Crystal Balls mean very very little. I believe nothing from Gus Ramos unless he read it off a premium info from Scout and Rivals. They are great for clicks though

I disagree mainly because it depends on who they are from, what their track record is and why they are making that prediction.

Two Northwestern CBs showed up for Devin O'Rourke yesterday morning and he committed the same day.

All the CBs for Micah Jones pointed towards ND and guess where he ended up? Same goes for Quincy Patterson with VT.

I won't dispute that Ramos has been off in the past but Steve Wiltfong changing his prediction for Newsome is meaningful. He's the whole reason there were CBs for Newsome to Illinois since he wrote an article in which Newsome was quoted as saying that Illinois is/was the leader:

http://247sports.com/Bolt/Illini-lead-for-in-state-standout-51657030

Other people piggy back off this information and then make CB predictions.

Wiltfong has changed his prediction in a matter of days and he didn't do it randomly. This isn't good for Illinois.

Here's some good news for all of "the sky is falling" fans refusing to believe Illinois can land blue chip talent.

This is great news!

We are getting blue chip talent on campus. Kids aren't buying in yet but the staff has shown that they can close the deal by using the full court press with certain kids who are taking Illinois into serious consideration but may be leaning elsewhere (i.e. Kendrick Green, Roundtree, etc.).

It's a little big but I got this from Twitter:

I understand the 314 to 217 area code thing, but "Littyville" I've seen elsewhere, Litty is a nickname for Thaddeus Ward?

More likely a reference to "it's lit", like it's gonna be a blast. So Lit-tyville maybe?

OldGreg I'm impressed with your fluency in young slang. Lit evolved to litty. Littyville is where it's lit(ty).

I thought I read this somewhere but anyone else notice alot of recruiting target say on social media that they are enjoying there Illini visit and will be back.

Any insight into that seemingly common verbage?

Per twitter I saw TE TJ Ivy is visiting tomorrow. 6'5 215. Plenty of room to grow. Moves well.

I've always been a big fan of the TE position. Kinda of a jack of many traits. Pass catching, blocking, ST player. Kinda of a do it all guy.

Teams like Stanford who use multi TE packages I've always loved to watch.

Getting more guys who have the potential to be a 6'4- 6'5 240-260lb athlete moving around doing multiple things is fun to watch.

Agree with you, Big Stan. I would use the TE a lot more than the average coach.

There's a pro team near where I live that does this. Seems to work. Maybe Illinois needs some good ole fashioned football. Tight ends, fullbacks, blocking linemen............

high school tight ends are often big athletic kids who grow into tackles, defensive ends and double as h back combination fullback/tight ends. There's lots of flexibility with kids who are big and can run!

So true. Big athletic HS QBs also often end up as TEs. ĐTs who are too slow end up on the OL.etc. etc.

Very true about the big QB's thing. The starting QB at my high school was a big, tall kid who ended up going to Purdue and starred there as a TE. His name was Tim Stratton and he did pretty well there winning the inaugural John Mackey award in 2000.
