With their 8th 2018 commitment, Kansas is up to 4th in the nation in team recruiting rankings.

Couple this with Illinois on the upswing and their recent troubles in STL, it's not looking good for Mizzou.

I wanna know more about this Kansas situation. I can't remember a traditionally bad P5 program making this much of a splash in recruiting since Zook's first couple classes here. Is David Beaty known as a great recruiter? Did they hire some dynamo assistant?

Per the LSU SB nation site, there's some speculation that Louisiana high schools are orchestrating some of this (the jewels of that class are from Louisiana) to send a message to LSU, who (essentially) just let their RB coach go (who was a prominent HS coach in Louisiana).

I would be very surprised if those guys stuck.

Thank you for the link. That is a fascinating read and provides some insight into what is going on here.

Wouldn't it be more of a statement if they were having kids announce for a school like Tulane?

Is there really a major difference in perception between Kansas and Tulane? It's just an "FU, anyone but LSU" move IMO

Ps That's a fantastic article! Thanks for posting it Born2BWild. I liked the " Lovie, he's a celebrity " and the violent and fast defense. We have needed fast for sooo long. Good to see " fast " coming to school!

This theory doesn't make sense to me. Why send them to Kansas? Why not push them to the school that hired the RB coach (Texas Tech)? Or, if you were out for maximum impact, why not push them to another SEC East school?

My guess is because they know they won't stick with the commitments so they don't want to make a local school look bad when they decommit all in a shot period of time.

I agree. If this is all about the RB coach then why not go to Texas Tech? I get that the theory is about making a statement to LSU but if this RB coach meant that much to them why not push them to TTU?

That or Tony Hull is the real deal and the rest of us are just in denial. We're still nearly a year away from signing day so a lot can still happen.

If I were a fan of Kansas football I would have mixed feelings about this. I'd hate being used this way but on the flip side it is giving their program a lot of publicity and is raising eyebrows across the country. Maybe these kids don't stick but others might start thinking about going to Kansas.

Edit:

The other side of this story:

I am a long time reader, and enjoy reading the insights and posts on this board.

Obviously, Lovie has to win the recruiting battles for the 4+ can't miss athletes, but every now and then someone like Isaiah has quite an career on the field. Can't teach speed.

For those of you who had been tracking the Kansas story, one of the 4*s already decommitted. Commitments this early really don't mean a whole lot a lot of the time, which is why I am still amazed we kept Epstein through the end of the '17 cycle

Look at it this way. He committed to several different coaches. They all just happened to work for Illinois

I think that's one of the more impressive things with this 1st class. We only had 1 kid decommit throughout the whole cycle (Collier) and he didnt even visit campus. The staff got the kids to buy-in.

Won't be like that every class, but impressive the first go-round
